New AK-74M to be displayed at May 9 parade

I wonder what this means for the AK-12? Shelved?

Wonder if the dough for the new design dried up.

I was really hoping we would see versions of the AK-12 stateside.

My understanding that it never got approved for adoption, even after they made a big deal about its design/release. Did it get looked at again, post 2013-14?

Interesting that they refer to the Armata as a medium tank in the article and not a Main Battle Tank.

I also wonder, since the weapon will be displayed by Naval cadets if perhaps the Russian Navy decided that they didn’t like the AK-12, but weren’t happy with the AK-74M, and went their own route.

From what I saw the AK-12 was being adopted on a limited basis by the Russian Army.

Is this it?

So the AK-12 is the new AN-94? (Except, you know, more reliable.)

The AK-12 is still the typical AK operating system, unlike the AN-94.

You mean the russians found out that its better to do incremental improvements rather than try and find the next gen wiz bang service rifle? Color me surprised

Looks like a rough copy of a magpul stock with an enhanced buttpad, CAA pistol grip, texas weapon systems top rail cover, knock off surefire, hand grenade/forward grip and a bulgarian booster brake.

Not to mention that it also doesn’t jam every two rounds.

Yawn . . . :lazy2:

The only thing I’m interested in on these is the new magazine.

Hence the, “Except, you know, more reliable.”

I think the muzzle device is not quite the same thing as the Bulgarian booster/brake.

And you forgot the Krebs safety.

In any case, I agree with MK: The most interesting thing about this is that it really isn’t very interesting.

I think it’s interesting that the American aftermarket drives Russian weapons development.

I was thinking the same thing.

I don’t think it’s all that weird. [some] Americans are known for the most pragmatic and efficient weapon upgrades. Russians (and many other countries) are doing their damndest to copy American SOF and this is just another example.
