New ACR + 500+ rounds = Range report..

Hey team…
As discussed the other day here is my range report on my new ACR…

I got to the range at 9:00 am and left @ 3:30 pm, I had the opportunity to let a few people try it out, and shoot well over 500 rounds through her…

(The GOOD!)
The Gun can shoot!.. DAM it’s very accurate! I was able to bang the metal plates 300 yards without any issues at all… I shoot in the prone, sitting, standing and bench, it’s way more accurate than my other AR’s are… The front hand guard never heated up, the Landworld BB worked GREAT and was / is very user friendly, liked the layout, the gun was comfortable to shoot and not one jam the whole day… Overall the rifle shot as I would have expected it too… Recoil was a lighter than my AR, but hey it’s a 223 not much recoil to begin with anyway…

The trigger was very smooth, all of the controls were very easy to work and its a really fun gun to shoot… The best part was no more (twang) in my ear… So long AR buffer spring!..

The b[/b] or just plain reality depends on how you look at it?.
WOW I paid WAY to much for it!.. NOT worth the price at all…

Bottom line:
The only, ONLY things that are really wrong with her / the ACR IMO are the following:

  1. She’s really not a well balanced rifle, she is front heavy!.. :frowning:
  2. The safety selector switch is CHEEP… and is going to break within 1 year… :rolleyes:

But thats it… :slight_smile:

Me personally I have a different opinion on it. I paid 3k for it and she’s not worth it!.. So I’ll need to either get over it or get rid of it for a loss and suck it up as another life experience… I just haven’t decided with route I’m going to do… :stuck_out_tongue:

If I could do it over again I would get the SCAR… Hands down…

Anyway thank you all for your time team, she a GREAT rifle, I had a fun time shooting the piss out of her, but she’s only worth IMO no more, I say NO MORE than $2,200.00 again just IMPO. Man I really need to build a bridge and get over it… HHahahahaaa… :smiley:

P.S. (for what it worth)
The big problem was there was another gentlemen with a new SCAR and he had a FN 2000N… (Bastard) hahahaa… No… He was really cool! and had some *****en cool toys with some TOP $$$ glass, it made my ACOG look like an Eotech… Anyway after shooting the FN 2000 I had the opportunity to shoot the SCAR…

LOVED IT!.. I’m defiantly getting one… I don’t know if I’ll sell my ACR for it (haven’t decided if I’m going to keep yet). But I’m defiantly getting a SCAR…

This is what I call shooting the piss out of your new rifle…

you can easily find the ACR for under $2200, buds had it for $2125 shipped.

Thanks for the excellent updates. However, just a quick suggestion–why not wait for the SCAR-H if you’re going to drop $2k+ on a carbine? I had a SCAR which I sold because I couldn’t justify (to myself) the extra premium for a 5.56 thrower. Now, a 7.62 thrower with excellent ergos may be worth the premium…

Nope!.. WOW she stayed really, really clean and no wear at all!.. COOL… I don’t have to clean her… Hahahahaa… That’s a first for me with an AR type rifle…

So if you got it a little over 2 grand at Buds Gun Shop, or off Gunbroker.com would you still want a SCAR?

I like the SCAR, it was fun to shoot, very well balanced, light, built well, etc, etc… if I had the opportunity to shoot both of them before getting one of them. I would have gotten the SCAR hands down…

But… If I would have gotten the ACR for $2200… WOW I would have loved it!, it is a GREAT rifle… but I would still want the SCAR, it just a better rifle IMO…

P.S.
The ONLY thing I didn’t like about the SCAR is the bolt handle is reciprocating!.. You really need to watch were you put your hands…

You might want to take a careful look at the front piston part of the op-rod before you claim she stayed clean. :smiley:
On a piston operated gun, that is the first area that get’s carboned up.
Happened with the FAL . . . I see no reason why it should not happen with all other piston operated rifles as well

In my opinion, your hand has no business being anywhere near the charging handle during firing anyways.

I’ve read other AAR’s that contain complaints about the reciprocating charging handle. Do people really think this is an issue?

peopel are used to the AR15 which never had a reciprocating CH. What advantage is there to have it reciprocating? It’s easy to name advantages for a non reciprocating. In either the SCAR/ACR I can have direct control of the bolt, ACR has a FA built in. Stuff moving on the outside of the weapon is just asking stuff to get snagged into it causing malfunctions.

I know that many folks prefer a non-reciprocating charging handle, but I believe some folks will like the reciprocating CH if they give it a good try.

I like the reciprocating charging handle - I run it on the right side allowing bolt release from both sides of the weapon, clear field of view, not against me when slung, and no issues with the Aimpoint/LaRue mount.

With the reciprocating CH -

  • I find it to be simple to work malfunctions - when running drills
  • I find it easier to spot a malfunction - when running drills due to the position of the CH
  • simple design / no extra parts
  • same design as my shotgun and 308 semi auto

I believe it was a requirement for FN to use a reciprocating charging handle to make an entry for the SCAR to be tested/used by the military.

This may sound nitpicking, but I wish the ACR had a changeable pistol grip so one could put in the aftermarket grip of their choice. For the price being charged it seems odd that it isn’t configurable for a simple change that is possible with most older generation guns.

I can’t disagree with this comment. I’m very amused at the pics of SCARs with MIADs on them…

I know for a fact that I saw a picture of a ACR lower that had provisions for interchangable grips. IIRC, it may have benn on the Remington site.

I remember seeing a picture of an aluminium lower for the ACR that you could swap grips on, I’d need to hunt for it.
