I just received a factory new Colt 6720 from a dealer and immediatly noticed a problem. I charged the rifle and the dust cover didn’t kick open like it should have. Upon closer inspection the ejection port cover pin wasn’t completely installed all the way. To be honest the pin looked slightly bent. After getting the pin lined up with the hole properly I was able to pry on the pin and had to use a hammer to get it in all the way… After getting that done I found that the ejection port cover spring wasn’t twisted properly and hadn’t been installed right either. These are all minor fixes that took 15-20 but this is a BRAND NEW COLT! I’ve never had problems with any new LMTs or S&Ws I’ve owned. Anyone else had an issue like this? I love working on rifles as much as the next guy but I shouldn’t be having to work on a new gun right out of the box like this. I must admit I’m a little disappointed this being my first Colt.
I have an email into Colt but I’m sure it’s just a mistake that they would gladly fix, however there is no way I would sent a rifle off now in the current industry climate. No, I will deal with it and drive on rather than risk not keeping positive control over it.
Most absolutely it does. I’ll forget about it by tomorrow. I guess this just caught me off guard and I wanted to share, nothing more than that I suppose.
I guess I just wanted to mention that the “gold standard” isn’t always 100%. Thinking about it most people would understand that there is a margain for error. I was upset when I first had to deal with this and wanted to vent to someoone besides my wife making dinner that I had to work on the new gun. I realize now that this isn’t the place to mention it. I will refrain from such posts as this in the future.
Thanks for sharing… it’s a legit concern and the reality is… they all have an “opps” at some point. If it was a S&W, I’m sure the powers here would be all over it, screaming about the quality control and more!! :bad: glad it was an easy fix, I’ll be sure to tell my bud that works at Colt that his shit can smell just like mine…! sometimes… but then, he already knows that.
There is no reason to refrain from posting this and whoever makes you feel this way needs to relax a little.
I bought my first AR a few weeks ago and this kind of information (the photos were a BIG plus) help me learn about the rifle. I’m going to use this as reference when I pull it out in a few hours. Thanks and I’m glad you were able to resolve it, but it sucks it happened on a quality rifle…
What joule have happened had it been left the way you found it? If someone was new to this platform they wouldn’t have caught this. I wouldn’t have.
Exactly! You accepted delivery of a flawed product; a flaw that would have been glaringly apparent with a simple inspection and function check right there at the dealer. You manage to fix the problem, yet your first reaction is to jump on the internet and express your disappointment in the manufacturer without even allowing them the opportunity to resolve the issue.
And, no, I’m not making excuses for Colt. No matter who the manufacturer is, everyone seems to want an internet hug when they have a problem with a product, when they should be addressing the problem with the manufacturer first.
Colt AR’s are the “gold standard,” but are still built by humans (which are capable of making errors).
I get guns, gear, ammo, etc that are screwed up from from EVERY SINGLE manufacturer on the planet. I have never found the need to post about it (as it serves no purpose).
No person is perfect so that means no product will always be perfect.
In the event that you cannot live with the “error,” I will give you $100 dollars OVER what you paid for it.
Hey Paladin, other than that minor issue, it looks like you scored a nice rifle. I have a 6520 that I got from CDNN a couple of years ago and I absolutely love. KISS goodness!
Before I purchased my LMT I remember reading of a case or two of the dust cover not installed properly. First thing I inspected before accepting was the dust cover. So, for me, having posts about defects, gives me a heads up about what to look for since I have limited experience.
I recently ordered some uppers from a company that has been big in the news lately. When I was inspecting the uppers upon arrival my associate and I both had uppers where the spring for the ejection port cover was installed wrong.
I didn’t get upset and kick dirt and I didn’t flood their phone lines with hate calls. I simply fixed it and moved on.
