Well I found that a friend of mine was wanting to sell his Springfield 1911 Champion GI pistol. This will be my second 1911 and I will be making this into my next project pistol that will be getting a lot of TLC and upgrades. I am hoping Springfield can help me get the finish fixed. If not I will most likely get a cerakote coating done to it. The main reason I am buying this is that I love 1911’s.

Well I picked the pistol up today; I spent over an hour cleaning it. I found after breaking it down that it was never cleaned from the previous owner. I removed a fair bit of carbon from the gun. I removed surface rust from outside of the barrel as well as inside the barrel; I did not see any pitting. I also removed rust from the rear of the slide, from around front sight post, rear sight as well. I put a heavy coat of oil on the gun and then I let it sit for a few hours. I then gave it a good wipe down to remove the excess oil. I have seen a few cold blue kits and I am willing to look into them a bit more. I will post photos when I get it to the range this weekend.

Looks like you cleaned it up good but damn that frame needs some lovin haha. Keep us up to date on how it’s going. I’m thinking about cerakote as well on my new to me SA Loaded

Range report, the gun ran great except for a couple of the magazines it came with were no good. I had several of them double feed, one would not cycle fully loaded. I had two that would stove pipe ever other round. I brought my Chip Mccormick magazines and ran 250 of FMJ’s no problem at all. So out of the 9 mags it came with only 4 did not work to use for carry mags. They will be training mags now. The following target is at 25 feet

Not bad with those sights. It’s begging for a vacation at SACS:D

Yea the sights are not the easiest to use but they work with decent light. They will be getting changed when the cash is there.
