New 11 1/2" Carbine build..

So I decided to just cut a ESS 16" 1/9 barrel down to 11.5"… I took my virgin PSA lower and put it to use with a Phase 5 Pistol tube and Carbine buffer/spring…

I added a simple sling point on it…

Barrel came in from Copes for $104 shipped… (4th of July Sale…)

Cut it at the muzzle end of the ‘notch’… worked to 11 1/2" pretty good…

Next to my 14 1/2" BCM (with pin/welded comp) for length comparison…

Test fired 4 shots of Federal 556 to function check… all well thus far…

(I did buy #46-43 drill bits in case I need to open the gas port…)

Waiting on my free-float handguard and flash hider…

Threading the barrel tomorrow if my TAT shows up in the mail from CNC…

Stay tuned…

And now threading… got the Threading TAT in today…

Barrel was 0.615" diameter so I went with 5/8-24R (I already had the DIE from a 762 threading job last spring)…

Flash Hider (1 3/4" in overall length) on 1/2 way…

Waiting on the FF handguard and MBUS set…

coming along nice.

My GRG 10" FF rail ($56) came in early…

Its not a perfect rail… its a smidge wider than my upper receiver and a little out of spec…

I like the long holes for air flow and weight reduction… I figure 12oz for the rail (using MI weights)…

Debating on closing up the end of the rail with a ‘cap’…

And the photo shot…

Overall happy… full range trip in like 2 weeks…

You crowned it, right?

Based on 2nd to last pic…my guess is no?

I test fired without crown and it was gtg…

Will do crown after I move and get $$ for the tool…
