Learned something new. Might as well get as much use out of the 'ole girls as we can!

Old news, used to rack upto a dozen on each wing over Nam. That footage looks more like Nam, though–today’s H’s don’t have the high-density racks of the old “Big Belly” D’s that could be stuffed full of like 84 500-pounders on six clip-in racks.
Lifelong BUFF geek over here–I tell ya, you give me a bird and a modest R&D budget, and I’ll show you some scary shit…
Just imagine that cavernous bay packed full of the new 250-lb. SDB mini-smart bombs that can Reach Out and Bitchslap Someone 40 miles away from drop point… and that’s among the more mild of 'em, a prof who used to fly F-106s and I had a plan for one that would make the “Old Dogs” of Dale Brown’s novels look like the original 1952 prototypes by comparison.
But neither of those are the main point, which is… Old Warhorses Can Still Kick Ass, in a BIG way.
Bombs, heck they used to hang hound dogs off the wings.
Yup, those too…
To the non-wingnut, AGM-28 Hound Dog was a primitive air-launch cruise missile the size of a small fighter.

I just read an article in the last couple weeks, speaking to how the B-52 is the most versatile aircraft ever made, and is the longest in-use AC of all time, and no other AC will beat its longevity.
They are awesome old warbirds…Watch some footage from Vietnam on the big belly D modification, she rains bombs. If you havent , a great read is a book called “Linebacker: The untold story of the air raids over North Vietnam” by Karl Eschmann. Great book.
I saw a lot of B52’s at Griffiss AFB when I was a kid. Just never knew or saw them with bombs on their wings. Kind of cool. My dad saw a lot of B52’s when he was in Vietnam. I’ll ask him about the bombs on the wings. Don’t think he ever got to close to them though. He was on the ground with the 25th ID around Cu Chi and Tay Ninh area’s and over to the Canbodian boarder 3-67 to 3-68.
My B-52 reading list:

Somewhere I have a pic of me writing on a JDAM just before upload on a buff. I wrote: “preparation I- an Islamic suppository”. Circa March 2002 during Operation Anaconda. Seemed clever to me at the time. I have a bunch of flightline photos of -52’s, Bones and even a couple of Spirits while deployed early on for Enduring Freedom.
Please post them, while observing any needed edits for classified stuff.
Got about a minute into the video and had to turn it off.
I hear enough of that damn automated voice during CBTs, I don’t need it when I’m off. ![]()
OK, I am not good at this. Please bear with me.
In the BUFF photo above, you can make out one JDAM still hanging on the port side underwing.
Didn’t mean to attach the Bone, but there you go.
The three pics above, JDAMS being assembled and readied for loading; night ops, notice how small BUFF looks next to KC-10; note the bomb loading in the wings… JDAMS.
These pics are not from Anaconda as I previously mentioned. I can’t locate that CD presently. However, for the purpose of the OP and thread, these are relevant.
These were taken November 2001 during some of the first missions of Enduring Freedom.
On the living conditions, we were getting up to 6" of water in our tents every other night it seemed. It would leave behind crabs and other life that would hide, die, and stink up the tent. My buddy woke up one morning, threw his legs over the side of the cot and underneath was a large (about 2 1/2 feet across) coconut crab that grabbed him by the ankle. Now my friends, that was funny! At least once I was over getting woke up early! The claw was as big as a man’s hand. Left a terrible bruise…
Where were you running them out of Guam?
NYH1.
Indian Ocean
And now you understand why when I see one of the damn things I either scream and run like a little girl or draw my .45 and as Sgt. Major Plumley said “prepare to protect myself”…
I wish I could draw graffiti on bombs. It’d look like my 9th grade notebook with like anime drawings, batman logo, 2pac lyrics, and tweety flipping the bird.
