Thank you for your reply. I plane on purchasing both actually, but I want something similar to those in a heavy’er material.
I’m looking for something like the arc’teryx bravo or tad gear stealth hoody. I’m going to be using it mainly as a shooting jacket during the fall/winter months. And maybe every now and again out to run errands. I have been searching a while but haven’t been able to find anything. So do any of you have any recommendations? Thanks.
why not the bravo or stealth if you like those?
i don’t know of that many heavier soft shells. TAD had one called the LRP which had thicker fleece insulation than most, but it’s no longer made. IMHO, i’d layer rather than have one heavy jacket. a shell over an insulated mid layer (polartec). the combo will give you more versatility over a wider range of temperatures.
hopefully some of the other folks with more cold-weather experience will chime in.
But there is one for sale in the EE.
Thanks mm that’s probably the rout I will have to take.
Ezgoingkev thanks for the link, unfortunately being 5’6" @ 150lb I don’t think the extra large is going to work. I appreciate the help tho.
+1 for layers as opposed to one thick shell.
Polartec fabrics have, in my experience, been excellent insulators but absolutely sucked in terms of abrasion resistance, so take care of them.
I have a shell that was given to me by a friend that worked for Aimpoint. It had their logo on the left, so I imagine it’s something they handed out to their reps.
The outer material is, for lack of a better way of describing it, in between softshell and hardshell density, and lightly insulated with a thin fleece on the inside. I use it as my hook-by-the-door toss-on garment when I want to catch a smoke or take the dog out to do his business in the rain during the colder months.
It sheds water just great, and the ONLY reason I don’t wear it on a more daily basis is that, for whatever reason, it was put together with the zipper pull on the left side, like the buttons on a woman’s blouse. Something about that hits my mental Reset button, so I just leave it home. I’ll look to see if there’s a brand-name tag in it.
