As far as ‘normal’ use goes for a ‘once a weekend’ shooter is it necessary to clean/lubricate magazines? Also is there any benefit or harmful effect to hitting ammo with a shot of CLP? The last time i took my s&w mp 15 out, which i have been experiencing FTFs with, i hit some steel jacketed wolf ammo with a shot of CLP before loading the ammo into the mag, and i had no malfunctions with my rifle. BTW the magpul pmags worked flawlessly with multiple types of ammo, my hats off to magpul industries.
Most casual users don’t need to break down and scrub out their mags on a regular basis. If they get dunked in mud, sand, dirt or otherwise get filthy, they need to be serviced. CLP has no place on ammo! CLP/lube/solvent will just act as a magnet for gunk and might end up deactivating primers if enough contamination occurs. If these products are used on the mag itself, they need to be wiped dry.
Oil in mags = bad juju
I don’t ever use oil in my mags. In my Limited pistol mags at matches after dropping them on the ground I disassemble them and clean them with a Arrendondo brush and spray with Hornady ‘One Shot’ which is a drylube. It works very well and isn’t oily.
I use the Remington Dri-Lube that I got at Walmart a few years ago. I find that it does make the mags a bit smoother, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I have this stuff and need to use it for something and it doens’t seem to hurt. 
As far as cleaning goes, I do it as needed, which typically is not that often unless they have hit the dirt.

If I come into possession of used mags I field strip them and clean but I clean the rest of my mags on a yearly basis. I don’t think they particularly need it but I see it as preventative.
Thanks for the info, haven’t sprayed oil in my mags, but just wanted to know what other people do. Nothing better than asking experienced folks. Thanks again.
