I have lost interest in building this AR-15, and I’d like to sell my lower receiver. It is lacking the stock/buffer/tube/spring parts, but the rest of it is in new condition. Here’s what I have and their retail prices at the local store:
Noveske stripped lower receiver - $300 (got mine on sale for $150)
Installed stag parts kit (flawless kit, smooth trigger pull) - $70
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard (aluminum) - $20
Tango Down Battlegrip - $35
I’ve invested $275 in this; and I’d like to get most of my money back out of it since it’s brand new and unused. What price should I ask for it? I’m afraid it’ll be difficult to sell since it’s easily obtainable from dealers.
Where should I try to sell it? I live in Florida, so laws are pretty relaxed. A gun show is coming up, and I would like to try to sell it there without renting a table. However, I don’t really know how I would carry it around with a sign on it.
The retailers won’t buy it; do you think the private vendors will?
Any suggestions would be helpful; I would hate for this beautiful thing to sit around collecting dust.
Post it on here in the equipment exchange area, ask a fair price, more than likely someone will pick it up. Read the equipment excahnge rules and be patient. I have been able to sell stuff on here with minimal problems.
Under federal law, you can sell the lower to somebody who is a resident of your state, provided that person is not otherwise disqualified (convicted felon, drug user, etc) and is eligible to buy a HANDGUN. Stripped lowers, for all intents and purposes, are now treated similarly as handguns by the ATFE (you have to be 21 to buy a stripped lower).
If you are selling to somebody who is not a resident of your state, you MUST ship it to another FFL in the buyer’s state.
State and local laws may be more restrictive, be sure to check them as well.
Economically, it probably makes sense to sell to a local dealer or another law abiding citizen in your state, since you’re going to pony up for shipping (fedex and UPS require all firearms to be shipped overnight).
Sounds like I should try to sell it locally then. Unfortunately the local stores don’t buy em up. Hopefully I’ll have some luck at a gun show.
With pistols you can carry around the box; with rifles you can carry it on a sling; what the heck do you do to advertise a lower receiver? I could tie a shoe string through the mag well and stock hole I suppose; carry it and strap a sign to it.
