Hi I just bought a host for an SBS project that I am doing . It is a remington 870 express magnum with mesa tactical and surefire stuff on it. I live in Miami and need a good lawyer to do a NFA trust. Any advice or recomendations will be very appreciated . I already have an armorer to cut the barrel down and do his majic, but I just need guidance in getting the paper work, CLEO signature etc etc. as fast as possible. Thanks in advance.
FWIW- when I did my 870 I went online and searched around and found new short barrels for around 119.00. Just a thought.
If you are setting up a trust you do not need CLEO sign off, fingerprints, etc…
Take a look at the threads here discussing trust vs. CLEO.
Hey thanks a lot. I just paid for the trust and I am going to fill out the forms and send it in with the $200 MO to the ATF. What I dont understand, is what do I put as the description at the end of the trust. I bought the remington 870, but it is not a class 3 weapon as yet. Do I put " construction of SBS"?
Im a little confused at this point.
Sorry you have me confused as well. I assume that you mean in the Schedule A? If so, it’s just like doing an SBR.
When I did mine, I added the description- Shotgun, Remington 870, serial # xxxxxxxxx.
I have always added the items to the trust, submitted a copy of it along with other required paperwork, the completed Form 1 and then the payment and sent it away.
When you got your paperwork back from the ATF, were you allowed to assemble the barrel by yourself or did you have to take it to a gunsmith that is a manufacturer. I was told that even when you get back the form you cannot contruct the SBS for yourself if it wasnt an SBS to begin with. Is this true?
+1 on just buying a barrel.
Who told you that, a gunsmith? Once you get your papers back you can then construct it yourself, you are the maker of the SBS.
Whomever said that was either;
- An idiot
or - Looking to make money off you.
In any case there is no difference between building an SBR or an SBS. You simply remove old barrel, add new barrel and you’re done.
Thanks guys… Thats why I love this forum, quality information. I will submit my forms now and buy the barrel when I recieve the forms back from the ATF. If there is anything else I might be missing, please inform. Thanks again guys.
Dont forget the engraving if you haven’t already done it
Yes. Is it my name with my address underneath?
If you did it as an individual as opposed to a trust… you’d put your name and city/state.
I did it with a trust. Does this mean that I dont have to engrave the shotgun?
I am submitting my forms to the ATF to construct an SBS next week. I want to just buy a new 12" barrel instead of cutting the existing one so that I can use it as a back up. The problem is that I have no clue where to buy the barrel when my forms get back from the ATF. I have searched on the Net with no luck. Does anyonw know where one can buy the barrel? And do I need to replace the mag tube extension? where can I buy both the barrel and mag tube extension? thanks in advance guys.
Here are some options. Before anyone flames me about mentioning Botach (I bought mine from them around 2 years ago) and they delivered it very promptly for a good price.

Another option is to send the barrel to Hans Vang and allow him to do the work. He is the best in the business.
You are still supposed to… although I know very few people who actually do.
I would buy a new bbl too. Cutting it is cheaper but you will have a cyl bore. If you buy you can choose to have it tighter which is what I would do. You could also sell your old bbl and make some coin. Good luck and have fun with it.
My class 3 dealer didnt have time to complete the form today so I sign tomorrow and off it goes. I will ressurect this thread with pics when I get it back. Thanks guys ![]()
Can you explain what form your dealer is doing? I thought you were doing it yourself? You don’t need a dealer to fill out a Form 1. You simply download it from the BATFE website and do it. ![]()
This is on a form1. Dealer and I were chatting and I told him that I was going to download it and send it off to BATFE. He then told me that he has seen too many people get thrown in the back of the line because they had made a mistake on the application and had to change it. Me being a complete noob at this, I agreed. Good thing he aint charging because some other douchebag tried to charge me 100 bucks. they are a lot of dishonest dealers out there.
