Need M4 scope mounting advice...

I’m running a 6920 and want to use it for busting 'yotes at 1-300 yards. I currently have a convential 3-9 variable power rifle scope and would like to use it. I have a handle mouted rail I bought years ago but this is no good. I want the scope lower to the bore.

My issue is getting above the front sight post for cheap. Taking it off and sub’ing with a gas block isn’t an option. Spending a lot of money on mounting, isn’t an option. Will standard hi-rise rings clear my FOV of the post ? I can get a set of rings that bring me up .724 high. If not, what is a budget method for getting the scope high enough to clear the front sight post ? If it is too much of a problem, I’ll just keep using the scoped Mini-14.

Thanks for the help.

Scroll down. Standard, and cantilever styles available.

Are you running any type of a rail system? You can always chop off the front sight post and use a file to finish it so it takes the form of a low profile gas block. There are quite a few posters here and on other sites that have done the same.

If you require iron sights, the magpul flip up ones are very reasonable.

I wouldn’t put the scope higher to clear the front sight post. Anything more than 2-2.5" over bore can be problematic.

I just don’t want to alter the gun(s) from it’s original state. I do also run a BCM M4 with rail as my primary defense gun. Just wondering if the higher scope mounts are worth it without a riser; wondering if the front post messes with the sight picture on a 4X scope.

I’ve never have had an issue with the front sight post. On my old Colt NM flattop, I ran a Swift 6-18 and the FSB nave came into view. Same with my new set-up and the Leupold MR/T - the only time I see the FSB is at 1.5x

You will not see the fsb. This should be a non issue.

3-9 seems a little overkill for a speedy target acquisition but not a bad choice. I will be getting a 1-4x soon for my 'yote gun soon. Happy hunting.

Excellent guys. Thanks. My main concern was obstructed view with the FSB. I think I’ll pick a system then and mount it up. Should be good for P-dogs too with the 3x9 scope. The 'yotes don’t stand a chance.
