I have managed to break off an allen key in my gas-block set screw. It’s a Larue low profile GB. I have tried to remove it but haven’t had any luck. I don’t mind if the GB gets trashed but I don’t want to hurt my BCM barrel. Can anyone recomend a good gunsmith that could help me with this???
How mechanically inclined are you?
If you are not so much, find a buddy that is, have him help you, and take him out for steak.
If you are, take some pictures so others can see how you did it.
You need a broken screw/bolt extractor.
Sears sells them, probably also automotive parts houses.
If you gank up the threads in the GB, you may have to drill the threads out and tap it a size or two larger, but I am betting the GB is aluminum.
I don’t see any reason you can’t salvage this with just a tad bit of carefullness.
Lube generously with liquid wrench or whathave you.
Heat with care.
Lay the gas block on a super powerful electro-magnet.
turn on said magnet.
Use hydraulic pressure to lift work surface from tool surface.
Oh, and don’t forget that first you need to fabricate a barrel holding jig, that the hydraulic forces do dot damage the barrel/GB assembly.
Or, just go get Adco or one of those folks that are skilled at that kind of stuff.
I screw stuff up on my own builds from time to time and it really bends me out of shape for like five seconds, then I log on to this site and everything is fixed. Long Live M4C.net!
