Need Help Choosing a Sling Please

I know there is alot of info out there about slings, and im reading them.
However there isnt much about all the different mounts and mount points and what works with what.

Here is what I have. And I think a 2 point would be best for me, but im open to single point if only for the simplicity.

Id like to use the existing mount below the FSB, but im open to options. I realize the MOE stock doesnt have many options except to loop a sling through the slot at the rear.
Im not against getting a receiver plate mount either.
I think a 2 point would be best, but it looks like I would need to get some kind of side mount for the FSB, I dunno.
Im overwhelmed with all these setups, I dont want to spend money on stuff that isnt gonna work.
In another thread a member told me that Rob_S reccomended a Boonie Packer adjustable 2 point as a starter sling. But im not sure what attachments I would need.

Would using the existing mount under the FSB and a receiver endplate mount work for a 2 point, or would balance we akward?

Im a casual shooter, but I plan on taking some classes in the future, and would like something that can fill that role.

Thanks for any help or reccomendations

seriously? dude with that setup you’ve only got one option - a standard ole 2-point looped through the only two points you got.

why’s your rear sight so far forward?

I took the pictures right after I assembled the rifle, originally it seemed way too close to my face so I moved it up, thats when I took the pictures, it is to the rear now.

and about my setup, I said i was willing to add mounts to accomodate different setups.

look on mount-n-slot website for an attachment point for your moe handgaurd. you can search the forum I have seen pictures some time back. If it was me I would look at emdom sling or huskey slider sling. On the stock you can loop around the tube part and through the slot but you cant collapse fully.

I am also sporting MOE furniture. I added Magpuls ASAP sling mount. Currently, I am using the Magpul Rail Sling Attachment, but am not enamored with it. I am thinking of adding a mount with accompanying rail section to the rear of my handguard. I was using a Magpul MS2 sling, but switched to a Vickers quick adjust sling with aftermarket HK style hooks.

Not to hijack the thread, but I’m looking for a single point sling. I have the Magpul ASAP attachment now, but my issue is that all slings run a little big on me. I’m not small…I’m just short :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve tried a variety of slings and of course adjusted them, but nothings worked out. Anyone know of any single points that run on the smaller size?

Im running a Husky Amendum Slider 2 point. I have a moe handguard with IWC QD kit for the moe handguard and QD’d on my CTR stock. I am really happy with the set up.

I use an IDF Improved Sling with my Magpul stock.

Get a hybrid/convertible/1-to-2 point sling.

Just do it for christ’s sake. I cannot dialectically describe the extent to which 2 points get in the way of weapon controls compared to singlepoints, nor can I explain how difficult it is to perform extended hikes, short sprints, rappels or trail riding with only a singlepoint. Hyrid slings offer everything you need and nothing you dont. Period. I really do not understand why they have not become standard among M4C. Some suggestions:

  • Emdom Gunslinger
  • Savvy Sniper Quad variations (never used them, heard good feedback but based on personal experience, I think Cobra buckles have no place on slings. My .02)
  • The sling of your choice with an IWC QD Triglide

Or be a boss and make your own. Its really not difficult to order some webbing and thread it through some ladder locks. And yes, you want a receiver endplate mount. They balance the weapon excellently and stay out of the way of manipulations.

QD Swivels are fine and proven, just if they ever do break youre pretty shit out of luck since a QD Swivel mount on the rifle wont even be compatible with webbing or any spare connectors IF you do carry spares, (VTAC’s LUSA is an exception here). Personally I recommend 1" ITW MASH hooks, but thats just my taste. IMO, not much more difficult to clip into your weapon with MASH hooks and theres no mechanism to ever break. Makes me trust the connection more than a QD swivel does, but that’s just personal sentiment. Avoid HK Hooks.

I had the Magpul MS2 for a while, and ran a single point on my work carbine. Worked great at the range, not so much in the field.

Switched to a padded VTAC sling I had lying around when I attended a carbine course and was sold on adjustable two point slings after a week at training.

A few months back I made the switch to the BFG VCAS exclusively for my ARs/M4.

What killed the VTAC for me was a hiccup I experienced while I was performing a weapon transition drill. As I grabbed the mag on my belt to reload my pistol, I also grabbed the tail end of the sling.

Is that the one where you can open the buckle and expand the sling even further?

Like most shooters, I have a bunch of slings that I’ve used and discarded over the years. After finally determining that a 2-point sling works best for me, I went first with a VTAC padded. I like it, but there’s a lot of extra tail on it. Last rifle I went with the padded VCAS with QD swivels sewn-in and that works great.

For mounting on MOE hardware, I elected a Micro Mount-N-Slot and a Noveske QD endplate.

Get a padded BFG VCAS op. Best sling out there.

What is the issue with HK hooks?

If the sling is twisted around in certain ways, it’s possible for an HK hook to position itself so that the gate is opened by the pressure from the mount, and thereby making the sling detach.

Makes sense and good to know as I just ordered an SKD Drop Slider Sling with HK hook. Something for me to keep an eye on when using it I guess. Thanks.

I have been through a few and the “ideal” sling for me is a cross between the Magpul MS2 and the VTAC adjustable.

The VTAC adjusts better and faster than any other sling I’ve tried.
The Magpul’s 2 point to 1 point is just awesome. I use it quite a bit. The Magpul adjustment is nowhere near the VTAC. It basically only works one way and I have to take the sling off to adjust it the opposite way.

I think VTAC has a new sling out there that can also go from 2 to 1 and vice versa but the method that they use isn’t as nice as the Magpul alligator clip and D-ring.

I have toyed with the idea of buying a few sets of both and then just piecing them together in a sort of hybrid setup.

It is highly unlikely that you will ever experience this issue with an HK Hook, however there is no reason so completely eliminate the possibility with a better attachment such as a MASH hook. Replacing it will cost you all of a few bucks. It will last forever and you will never have issues with any sort of mechanism failing.

I use old HK Hooks on the end of shock cord to dummy cord my keys to my belt loops but apart from rather pedestrian uses such as this, I havent found much use for them.

IWC QD cup installed in handguards, sling threaded through MOE stock. This is a Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Sling but the Boonie Packer will install the same way provided you get the narrower width.

I have used many different slings, from home-made adaptations of old-school GI web slings in the late 90s to recent convertibles. I have settled on the BFG padded VCAS with a QD on the handguard and rear of the stock. I have used this setup in extensive training from enclosure clearing to 600 meters, as well as in real life operations and combat in the same.

I have come to prefer the front attachment to be forward on the handguard as it keeps the sling away from the magazine and bolt-catch and prevents tangling when pushed to the support side shoulder. I wear it with the sling fully run-out and adjusted to permit shoulder transitions, which allows me to tighten the gun solidly to me by running the sling in if I have to use both hands and need to get the carbine out of my way. I prefer to use a QD over the barrel sling swivel to prevent pulling on the barrel with sling tension, and it makes disassembly easier. Forward placement of the sling also permits use of the sling as a marksmanship aid. I mount the sling to the outside of the stock to permit shoulder transitions without needing to move the stock around the sling.

Properly setup and adjusted, a quality 2-point will equal or out perform all other options. The only thing I don’t put a 2-point on is breaching shotguns.
