I have a friend who owns several surplus rifles andis pretty big into military firearms. Well, he’s finally come to his senses, and after buying a CMP M1, he has decided to get his first AR. However, he is pretty strapped for cash at this point and is saving up for one right now.
What low cost AR’s that still work 100% can you recommend?
I’m not really looking for an assembled gun, but perhaps a good deal on uppers lowers, part kits, etc. I already know about the EE on the other side, and its no problem to look daily, but I’d rather find a reputable dealer with a website.
So far, I’ve seen the Ameetec Arms M4 lower and upper, together costing $650 (no rear sight though, everything else is included) This is a 6 pos M4 lower, with a 16in M4 profile A3 upper with chrom lined bore and chamber. (1/9 twist) Is this a good deal? Does anyone have any experience or know what parts are used?
Any brands to stay away from? And don’t you dare say Bushmaster!
The name brand guys don’t make bad stuff, just some cost more than others. The only tangible difference between companies are the barrels used. Almost all other parts are sourced from the same handful of suppliers.
Also, a 1/9 twist barrel is perfectly fine for any cartridge that will fit in an M16 magazine.
Chrome lined is only necessary for combat or harsh environment situations. That’ll save you a few bucks. However, others see it as cheap insurance.
Get something with clamshell handguards. You can always upgrade later if you really need it.
If you want something cheap and good get a Stag. You can build a M4 type for less than $700. Off brand you can go as low as under 600, see del-ton.
Ok guys, just had a chat with him today, and apparantly, he is looking for a 20incher, not an M4. Oh, and his price range is less than $750. Know any good deals that could nap a A3 govt. profile chrome lined barrel upper with a good A2 stocked lower for that price?
