Hey I am new to this site but have read a lot of the treads. I am just curiouse about some other people’s opinions on my latest build. A little background is that I am a former door kicker for the military and like to practice my CQB skills as much as I can, so the weapon will get used and abused, lol.
Voltor upper
BCM 11.5" barrel
10" Daniel Defense lite rail system
BCM bolt carrier group and Gunfighter charging handle
Magpul furniture
Voltor Emod combo kit
Haven’t figured out lower becouse of difficulty getting some of them but want a daniel defense or BCM.
Great parts you listed for your upper. I personally would swap the DD 10.0 lite rail for a Centurion C4 10" but other than that it is good to go. Just curious, why not just get a BCM upper and save almost 100 bucks over the Vltor? Nothing wrong with Vltor, just not sure it is necessary given the parts you listed.
Don’t forget, you still need sights, lower parts kit and register the lower. Otherwise, it sounds like a nice SBR you got going. By the way, have you considered any optics for it?
If you are going with a VLTOR upper, maybe you should look into getting the VLTOR lower. I saw one for sale yesterday on DSGarms and they are good stuff IMO. You build sounds really solid at the moment. The only suggestion I would have is to go the the Daniel Defense RIS II MK18 over the Lite. When I made the switch I was impressed. The RIS II is more compact and streamlined as well as more aesthetically pleasing IMO. Sounds like a quality build.
BTW… limit the Magpul s*** that goes onto the rifle. The mags and mag accessories are really nice and their CTR works really well for me but other than that I try to avoid them. I don’t know how big your hands are but I have always liked the Hogue… some people think it is too “rubbery” but I love the feel of them.
I would strongly consider getting the complete or stripped upper from BCM in order to save some trouble and probably some cost as well.
For an SBR which is being built for “CQB” as the OP said, the Hogue has a lot of angle as a pistol grip. I would think one of the newer AK style grips which have a more perpendicular angle would be better for this purpose. The BCM gunfighter grips might be just what the doctor ordered, OP.

I was looking at BCM uppers but they are kind of hard to find in stock, and so far I have always found Vltor in stock but if I can find them in then yeah I will use them.

That is one suggestion that I have been thinking bout but I was considering parting out so that I could gather up parts while I wait for registration of the tax stamps.

Thanks for suggestion but I like the magpul grips have used them in a lot of combat missions. The only other is the MBUS gen 2 sites so in retrospect I guess there isn’t to much more magpul stuff on it besides the angled foregrip and mags of course becouse I haven’t found any that has taken the abuse that my have.
Both uppers in stock. Buy the Centurion Arms rail and install it yourself. Takes about a half and hour.

Besides the magpul backups I was looking at the new Aimpoint micro, or an EOtech. Any other suggestions?
I too recommend the aimpoint micro. Easy to use, awesome battery life, and with the right mount, mounts nicely.
As for the mount I’d consider either the Daniel Defense or LaRue. I have the LaRue LT660 tall mount and love it. I use the fsb, and fixed rear as backup. They don’t interfere as the only cowitness in the bottom 1/3 of the aimpoint. When I use just the dot I don’t even notice the rear sight.
A good GI trigger will work fine. Just lube the sears and pins with grease, or better yet nickel Never Seez (It’s slicker than grease) before installing it. This will remove nearly all the grit and the trigger pull will be more consistent from shot to shot.
For a couple bucks more, you can get the ALG trigger which is the GI trigger held to more consistent tolerances during manufacture
I agree with mistwolf. Go with a GI trigger on a QCB build.
I was really impressed with the ALG trigger. Mine was just the QMS, not the ACT. It has a slight takeup and a clean break. Not too stiff, and a very noticeable reset. Great for the price.
I was able to pick up a LPK from G&R tactical. It’s a LMT lpk and you have the option of adding a ACT trigger of your choice.
