hello all. i’m new to the site and i have just bought my first AR style rifle and put 500 down range. i have the smith and wesson vtac in .223 (could not find a 5.56 on the market). but know im looking for a good sass any one know of a good one on the market. building is not an option for me. also this site is awesome already leaned a lot of things and thanks to iraqgunz i didnt waste $1700 dollars on a dpms .308 sass. thanks man. 
In .223? I thought it only came in 5.56 chambering.
nope this one is stampped .223 and it was the only one i could find in my local area. wanted the 5.56 but i can deal with .223.
What is the twist on that thing? Are their various barrels for this model?
Sass, you mean a 20inch, accurate, .223 rifle? I’ve been interested in that as my next rifle. 20inches is not that popular anymore it seems. I’ve looked for a 1x7-8 SS barrrel upper, but included 18 inchers. The four ways I was looking was Noveske SPR, JP Enterprises, Larue, and a White Oak barreled upper. I’m really looking for an upper, I have a lower set with a Geissele trigger ready for it, UBR stock now, maybe a PRS. Maybe a IOR SH 3-18 FFP or a New Premier Reticles 3-15. Kind of on the back burner for me, got the STI 2011 bug.

thas the good thing about my vtac is a 16in barrel with a 1:7 right hand twist it has a vtac free floating forend, vtac light mount coupledwith a surefire g2 nitrolon white light, a surefire flash hider, a vltor mod stock, and the best part a J.P. Enterprise matched trigger (2 pound) and speed hammer and a vtac sling. this is a factor production list everything i just said above is what u get when u but the s&w m&p15 vtac. plus hard case. i got mine for $1700.00 plus i put a eo tech nv 51.1 and a 3x multiplier. but know im looking at finding a semi auto sniping system (sass) in 7.62, .308, or .338 i,ve looked and the only person offering one that i know of is dpms. but i heard a lot of bad things about them.
last time i talked to WOA he said they were only about 8 weeks out. not nearly as bad as the others, some of which aren’t even taking backorders.
That VTAC was what I was going to buy, was on Grant’s wait list. He called me when my Noveske MPLA Reece was on its way to me. Sweat rifle. The reason I asked is that I thought their .223 barrels were 1x9 and the 5.56 were 1x7.
Opps, thought you meant .223/5.56 SASS rifles, DPMS has a 5.56 version also. In .308, I really don’t know. I also looked at getting into an AR10 platform, but they just seem a little bit more finicky than ar15. I came to the conlusion that the AR would be good out till 600 yards with the heavy ammo, and from there I’d just use a bolt rifle. I’m gearing more towards a 3-gun/tac rifle competitions than true tactical ops. Noveske and JP do make a .308 rifle, don’t really know much. POF has a piston .308. I had planned on buying an upper from GA Precision if did go Ar10 (probably dpms/knights pattern actually). Larue and LMT had .308 rifles at SHOT and then there is always the SCAR-H and Massoud coming down the pike. If I do go .308, it will probably one of the last two.
No real experience, I’ve just been down the path/thought process/search you are doing.
I’ve been comp shooting for long time but just now getting in to ar style weapons. never had the money to get my custom rifle and the get a black rifle it was always the one that would make me money and that was the comp rifles lol. i know lmt is one of the best how i hear better than colt. thats what ppl tell me. and thanks for the info
