Need advice on finishing my project.

I have been on this site for almost a year but just don’t post much. About two months ago I started to put together an AR for my boys (8 & 12) to bench shoot with. I don’t need anything to compete with but I do want quality ish type stuff.

This is what I have as of today.
20" Colt upper (fixed handle) with a chrome lined barrel.
Magpul PRS stock.
Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm
Shooters ridge bipod
Samson Evolution Rail

Now this is what I’m wanting to do and tell me if I’m going the wrong way. I’m wanting to get a VLTOR MUR and swap that out for my fixed handle upper so it will be a flat top to match up with the Samson Rail. Then find a good lower to put the PRS on (any ideas ?).

You need to find a flat top upper with no M4 feed ramps.

Can you steer me in the direction of where I would find one ?

You’ll want what is called an A-3 upper receiver. Those have rifle ramps. ( which is what you’ll need)

Right now you might have better luck of finding a leprechaun or Sasquatch unfortunately. Your best bet would be to go to some of the sites/companies that will send you an email notification when things come back in stock. I got a new BCM mid-length BFH upper last week this way at www.bravocompanyusa.com, but they were sold out within about 5 minutes of getting the email, so you will have to act fast.
