Need a patrol rifle ASAP.

I have been tasked to come up with a patrol rifle program at my department and also purchase the rifle for said program. I originally made the pitch for it to be just a personally owned program but the powers that be want at least one department owned rifle to be avalible to officers that do know personally own a AR.

I have been working on this for monthsand finally got it approved so now I need to get the department rifle asap so we can qualify and get them on the street. My problem is, I had my mind set on a BCM Middy mod 2 but I have been given a 4-8 week wait from BCM. I was going with that due to it coming with a rail and we would not need to purchase one. Any suggestions what/where to look? I’d personally just purchase a 6920 and get a Omega and be done with it but I have to play the game.

Colt LE6920 and don’t look back.

It has name recognition among the powers that be, it’s also the Gold Standard for AR carbines.

What is wrong with a 6920?

Perfect is the enemy of good enough. Especially for a beater/loaner/squad gun a 6920 is plenty good enough and available right now.

ETA: Templar beat me to it.

If you’re at the ~$1000 price point or more, you have an impressive amount of options for an FET exempt gun.

Nothing wrong with a BCM at all, but Colts are available at a variety of vendors, and could be in your hands in a few days.

GT Distributors has the 6920 for $995 right now. Can’t beat that with a stick.

(That might even be w/FET, so you may be able to get it cheaper still)

Colt 6920 or LMT’s Patrol Carbine.

That is an excellent price on a 6920. May have to pick another one up. I would look no further than this. I’m not sure you can purchase a better rifle at that price.

Damn! The past six month, have seen the price on a LE6920 drop from $1200 to $1150 and recently to $1100. Under a $1000?!!! Man,that price is just sick! Anyone in the market for a carbine should not hesitate, repeat, NOT hesitate to jump on this deal. That price should be outlawed!

Get the 6920. You can talk them into an Omega rail later on. I’d kill to be able to carry my Colt in place of my issued Bushy.

The divide between GTG and good-as continues to narrow.

I would get the Colt 6720 from Clyde’s Armory: http://www.policeguns.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=6615

That is an awesome deal and I may just have to pick one up for myself.

That is excellent advice. You really don’t need a rail. We use MOE handguards on out 6920s which makes mounting lights and slings easier.

Fantastic choice.

Sure you can. There’s Stag,Dpms,Doublestar,Bushmaster,Olympic,RRA, CMMG,Armalite, and BCC! Every AR-15 forum except this one knows that! :sarcastic:

Seconded.

Buy the Colt brother. BCM or LMT are good to go and what I own but I have to say that is an awesome price and you will not have to waste time and energy explaining why LMT and BCM are good to go. I personally get frustrated by that. I wish there was a chart or something to explain it. :sarcastic: I showed a local Chief my LMT SBR and he said yeah but is it as good as a DPMS or BushMaster?

Does BCM have any SBR’s and or select fire guns in Stock? The transfer to a PD goes pretty quick.

I second the sbr route. My department uses Colt Commandos and I have grown quite fond of that shorter barrel especially for urban duty. It is ten times easier to clear homes and buildings with an 11.5 than a 16". We have flip up rear sights and use a Trijicon Reflex as out optic (no batteries). All in all its not a bad set up at all.
