I’m in the market for a new .45. There are a few things that it will have to have. Light rail, manual safety and 10 rnd cap at least. I plan to use this for a number of different types of shooting. It will be a plinker, truck gun at times, go to a couple of classes and get carried.
I have owned about every type of handgun, 1911’s, Hi-Powers, Sigs, Glocks, H&K, S&W’s of all sorts, CZ’s, and a few other I can’t remember. I had planned to go with either a USP .45(Tactical or Expert) or an HK .45 although the Kimber Warrior keeps callin me.
I’ve had 2 that were trouble free. One a buddy bought and has got 2,500+ rnds down it after he got it from me.
However, after reading a number of threads here and other forums I got thinking about the M&P .45. It has all that I’m looking for and it is at least $400 cheaper or more than the HK.45, never mind the cost of mags. Also, the M&P has a 14rnd mag avialable. What really impressed me in the other threads were the number guys that basically said, “HK .45 or M&P.45”.
Also, I read Larry Vickers thoughts on the 1911. I have shot 1911’s alot but I have been lucky and not had any really problematic ones. I really at this point have no interest in owning a Harley.
So here is the question, how good is the M&P .45? What I am primarily intersted in is the durability. I know that the HK’s are about as close to bomb proof as you can get. How close to the HK is the M&P? I know that there have been some issues with it, have they been ironed out?
Any input you guys have would be appreciated.
Thanks!
