I need to buy (or maybe build, although it’d be my first build) a lightweight carbine upper just like Colt’s AR6720 upper. It has to have a carbine gas system. It’s going to be for my wife. I looked on BCM’s web site (we order a lot from them) all they seem to have for lightweight uppers are mid-lengths. Anyone know of any places that might have or might be able to get lightweight carbine uppers? I want a good quality made Mil-Spec upper.

Are you looking for a certain barrel length? Why does it have to have a carbine length gas system? How much are you willing to spend? Daniel Defense makes a LW barrel with carbine length gas system.
I’m sorry, I’m going to get a 16 inch barrel, hopefully with nothing on the end. The reason it has to be a carbine gas system is because she wants to use Magpul’s MOE stock, grip and hand guard. . . . .in PINK. We were at the Gun Show last weekend and she saw and held a few AR’s setup that way in pink and being a girl. . . . .she wants pink. Which isn’t a big deal, all our other AR’s are carbine gas systems.
Money, I was looking at BCM upper’s without BCG or hand guards they were a little under $500. If they had what I was looking for I would have bought it and paid the $180/$190 for a BCM BCG. So $700.

Grant has a Colt 6720 Lightweight Upper listed for $600. It comes with a Colt M16 Bolt Carrier Group, Colt Charging Handle, Magpul MBUS and Colt Handguards. Unfortunately it’s out of stock. I’d buy that in a heartbeat, that’s exactly what I want.

This really should be in the "Where Can I Find It Thread’ but it appears to be a little more than that. You are going to have a hard time finding a LW carbine gas system upper. Gunbroker is probably the best chance.

I believe they make pink MOE hand guards in mid length.
You could take it a step further and just buy FDE furniture and then have it Cerakoted whatever color or shade of pink she wants. Hydro dipping would also give her some design options. She could do a camo pattern in pink.
I think she will like the mid length better. Especially if you get her one of BCM’s 14.5 inch mids. The recoil will be noticeably softer for her and it will feel a little less front heavy.

I agree. I would also like to point out that there would be more hand-guard to grab ahold of as well as more pink to look at. My BCM RECCE 14 (mid-length) is much softer shooting than my carbine length examples.

And go with the Cerakoating like Obscenejesster suggested and get the whole rifle done. Taking off that FSB actually makes it feel way lighter and points more naturally. My girlfriend keeps trying to steal the setup I have like this (although not in pink lol).

You can always look at PSA if I remember correctly they make a lite weight carbine upper.

handguards and front sight post arent as light as you would think. Ultimate lightness now is the BCM enhanced LW and KMR handguards. The diameter of the rail is small so its easy for someone with smaller hands to get a full grip on it. Yea they dont have the handguard in pink but when they do come out with the rail covers sections you could spraypaint the rail sections instead of spraying the rail itself. Just an idea. A standard FST, delta ring, MOE handguard, handguard caps weigh a good deal more than what a 13" KMR does.
I would look at a BCM ELW upper with KMR from Grant and see if he is willing to Cerakote the KMR Magpul Pink.
I didn’t even think about that. Those MOA hand guards aren’t as light as one would think. They are also thick.
Just get her one of BCM’s light weight KMR uppers. You will not find a better set up for a female who wants light weight. The diameter of the rail is also thin so it would be easier for her to grip.
Don’t get any DD upper with one of their hand guards. Most of them are heavy and thick. If she’s like my wife, she won’t like them. My wife likes ghee KMR the most because she can grip it better.
Then just send the rifle off and have the KMR, upper and lower receiver Cerakoted in whatever pink she wants for $150.

I looked on BCM’s site the other day and noticed the lack of pencil barrel/carbine gas uppers as well. I have two such uppers I purchased from them already and personally I’m rather fond of that configuration, has BCM discontinued them?
