Need a free utility that scans for files with the same name/size

Techie folks, I need a free utility that scans a drive for files with the same name and file size so I can make some space on all my drives. Is there any such thing? I tried googling but maybe I’m not using the right search string.

I learned how to write a program like that in Perl earlier this year, but dont remember how to do it:p

I don’t use Windows a lot… but I suspect that you need something that will work with Windows? Do a search for “duplicate file finder” – do not use a “file comparator” that will not give you the results you want.

I have seen a program called Duplicate File Finder used a lot… seems to be good?

Do NOT use something that bases the clone designation on file name and size only, as remote as the chance is, there is still a chance that two different files can have the same name and size - use something that uses some sort of hash/checksum to compare the files.

If you are running *NIX, it would be easy to write a shell script that finds all files with the same name/size, then compares them using crc/sha/cksum/md5sum/etc, moves one to a specific directory and deletes the rest… of course, it could take a while to run, but you would be absolutely sure of the results.
