I purchased a 10.5" 9mm barrel with 1/2x28 tpi.
I have been unable to find an A2 style flash hider
in this configuration.
Went to Spikes-that’s where the barrel came from-
was informed that they will NOT have any more
machined-till ??
Where do I go from here- really need one, yes I
know that the Vortex is around- to much money-
for a 9mm. Plus I want to keep it short.
Thanks
Try Rock River…
They do a lot of that pistol Caliber stuff.
I did- they don’t make em in 1/2x28 for the 9mm:big_boss:
But another member is sending me one that will fit!
Rock River does make it for the 9mm, I’ve had it on my gun until I bought the Vortex.
Well- I got right on the phone, called RRA and asked the woman if they had/made an A2 style for the 9mm 1/2x28- and she said “NO”.
So maybe they have some one not aware of what they sell.
Thanks any way!:stop:
If you like you can buy mine, like I said I run a Vortex now so the RRA birdcage sits in the pile-o-parts bin.
In the 9mm round- I don’t know if enough gas is generated at the muzzle end- to warrant a GOOD FH- Like the vortex- PS what makes this one a good choice for the 9mm? My barrel is 10.5" one reason I want the A2 is because it is short- I want to keep the OAL as short as possible, with out going with a shorter barrel.
Thanks
I believe the biggest issue for you is going to be the fact that most
9mm stuff is either 1/2x36 or 1/2x32.
Why not just drill out your current 1/2x28 flash hider to 9mm?
That’s correct- the barrel’s I have are-1/2x36 and the other is 1/2x28.
A member has offered to drill out one of his 1/2x28 A2’s for me, and send it-NO CHARGE- I did offer but he said no, have to love this forum, when someone you only know from communicating here helps out.
But you have my interest on the Vortex, I did see one some where that said they where 1/2x28 for the 9mm.
I use the PWS FSC556 on my 223AR. Nice, long, and loud- for those to the side. But for out AR rifle/carbine shoots, it only matters to me and the RO!![]()
I ended up using the YHM 9mm pistol compensator instead as the flash hider on a 9mm AR pistol (or SBR) this is likely just a thread protector anyway. Tornado has them and I got one when I had them cut and thread my 10" Bravo Co chrome lined barrel to 8" and 1/2 x 28 thread. It was 1/2 x 36 and came with a flash hider that used a chrush washer to clock into position. The one Tornado sold me (standard bird cage) does not need to be clocked.
I’ve got a couple of these guys’ uppers for my MACs and they are very nice. Takes the crazy ROF down to something very manageable. The uppers come standard with an A2 FH threaded 1/2X28.

P.s. Brownells sell a couple 9mm FH’s, too.
Is the thread different so a 5.56 is not installed on a 9mm?
This is what I always thought.
Makes me wonder why the OP wanted a 9mm barrel with 5.56 threads.
Also, most of the 9mm FH are A1s for whatever reason. I know the one that came off my RRA was, and most (if not all) of the ones I’ve seen at the range have been A1. Difference being they have slots all the way around vs. the solid bottom of the A2.
He said it is a Spikes BBL and it came 1/28
I actually like the old A1 FH’s because they’re a breeze to install.
I understand where it came from, I’m just curious why he chose that threading.
Gotcha I thought it was just standard from Spikes. It just sounds like a bad idea to me with someone trying to push a 9mm through a 5.56mm hole. :cray:
Same can on a pistol and rifle could be the reasoning.

1/2X28 is the US standard for 9mm can mounting systems.
