Anyone know of a cheap carrier with AR15 mag pouches on it? I have an old vest and wanted a carrier to put the panel in and some mags to keep in the bedroom closet. I’m not going to ever use it, hopefully, so cheap is the key word. I know that the panels are “expired” but I would pick old panels over no panels any day. Moneys tight so buying hundreds of $ of armor every three to five years that just sits in the closet is out.
Far more likely that your panels are simply outside of their warranty than “expired,” in and of themselves. That 5yr you’re quoting is almost certainly how long they were warrantied for.
Ballistic panels are not like a gallon of milk. Unless they’ve been stored outside of their carrier, in direct sunlight and in salt water or diesel fuel, they’re not likely to have lost any capability just because time has passed. Kept out of the elements and stored flat, your chances of them experienced degradation are pretty minor.
You’re also going to get a lot more help if you can pass along what sort of panels you have. By that, I mean what brand if possible, and more importantly, what pattern they’re cut to. If you don’t know, photos will be your best bet. If they’re of a common cut, like SPEAR/BALCS pattern or the Paraclete concealment armor pattern, simple MOLLE carriers are relatively easy to find, and are relatively inexpensive.
You may also find some benefit, just as a general FYI regarding soft armor panels, by reading some of the threads regarding soft armor found in the Terminal Ballistic Info subforum: https://www.m4carbine.net/forumdisplay.php?f=91
In that case, don’t even worry about a carrier. Get a decent chest rig and throw some pouches on it. Be the most economical way of doing it, and no undo bulk is added.
I do have a chest rig but my purpose for wanting to set up a carrier is to have the carrier set with one or two rifle mags, one pistol mag, and a pistol holster and store it in the bedroom closet with my rifle in case of home invasion or the like. I don’t want to have to try to put a vest on then a chest rig under the stress of hearing someone sacking my house.
I did find a carrier that Point Blank makes called R20-D. It’s more expensive than I wanted but it designed to carry my panels. The pouches on it don’t look that great either but like I said hopefully I will never actually use it.
My whole point is that if you are hoping that you never have to use, and more than likely never will; why waste the money?
The vest is stand alone, yeah it’s slick, but it’ll do it’s job. No need to get a carrier for it, just for the sake of having molle covered everything. Especially when you don’t actually want to ever have to use it.
