NCAA 2013 is here!

So college football is about two weeks from starting and I figured instead of the normal doom and gloom politics, how about a thread a little non controversial where we can all pitch in without tempers flaring, broken friendships and where each others views are respected without arguments.

(yes, the last part above was meant meant with sarcasm lol)

Show your team support, give predictions on your team and who’s going to go to the National Championship?

Thinking Bama once again in the BCS NC with Ohio State (two teams that pains me to say)

Biggest disappointments and/or overrated teams: Texas A&M, USC and Florida State.

Tennessee goes 7-5 with losses to Oregon, Florida, Bama, South Carolina and one other team besides Georgia (who we will put the smack down on).

Who’s your team and what are your predictions?

Ohio State is easily the most overrated team in the country. Their schedule last year was ridiculously soft and they still barely squeaked through. Their defense wasn’t very good and they lose 6 of their front 7 from last year.

… On the upside their schedule is pretty soft this year as well.

Of course all you’ll hear on ESPN is “Braxton!”, “Urban Meyer!” and “undefeated!”.

Fun fact…

The two worst (statistically) undefeated teams in the BCS era? 2012 Notre Dame and Ohio State.

BTW- Go Blue! :stuck_out_tongue:

Someone will play the winner of the SEC Championship Game.’

I’m an unabashed LSU Tiger fan but their schedule compared to Alabama’s is killer so if I had to bet the family jewels I’d bet Alabama versus someone.

And I’ll pull for the SEC Champion.

Pitt joined the ACC, so now I can FINALLY watch my beloved TARHEELS on local TV!!!

Pinko commie bastard…

My alma mater East Carolina. No SEC powerhouse, but my team nonetheless. I also went to Duke, and they’ll do OK this year.

On a “national” level I usually pull for Wisconsin, but I like most of the SEC teams.

The SEC is always a tough conference.

My Tigers are in the ACC. Clemson Tigers that is.

Seriously doubt they will be in the running for a championship.

University of New Joisey @ Durham?!?! The Butt Pirates?!?! Cheddar Curtain U.?!?! And you own firearms?!?! :jester:

Oddly enough Duke has more students from NC and many other states than NJ. But knowing that would take independent research and ability to critically think; skills not too familiar with my colleagues down the street.

I am proud of my education from both places. And yes, in spite of the them they let me own firearms.

All in good fun. I worked at UNC Hospitals for a few years, and enjoyed it, and there’s some decent eateries and bars in Chapel Hill.

Go Vols! It will be another couple of yrs. before they are back in the hunt.

That said, 'Bama looks tough again. And thankfully wife and I have ties to the school so we can honestly pull for them. Except when they play my alma mater; UT.

SEC rules college football; period. Facts is facts. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional.

My UW Huskies will probably be pretty strong in the PAC-12 but I don’t expect a National Championship anytime soon. That game will be someone vs Alabama. Honestly, it can be anyone BUT Oregon and I’ll be content with the world…

I’d say the SEC has ruled THIS period of college football. In years past (from 1983 thru 2002) it was the University of Miami with Nebraska and Oklahoma stepping up.

Who’s next? Big 10, maybe.

“One cannot awaken a man who pretends to be asleep.”

I’ve found with friends who are Vols fans they gotta take whatever solace they can get. :stuck_out_tongue:

With the way OSU and Michigan are recruiting I think they’ll be able to compete with anyone in the coming years. Not so optimistic about the rest of the B1G.

Northwestern will be dangerous year to year but they’ll always struggle with recruiting long term. Nebraska hasn’t exactly been burning up the recruiting trail and I don’t know what’s been going on with their defense. Michigan State looks to be on the ropes with Michigan recruiting getting back up to speed (after the crater left by Rich Rod). If they can’t bring in any elite talent from the State (more than an occasional pickup) they’re pretty much screwed.

I think there’s a long list of reasons why the SEC has been dominant recently.

Some range from questionable to downright shady… Academic standards, heavy use of JUCOs, over signing, “medical hardships”, etc.

Some just being the way things are… Weather, bikinis, football being a religion even down to the pee-wee level in the south, the media hype and stacking of preseason polls becoming a self fulfilling prophecy, etc.

You should see how crazy Pop-Warner football is down here !! Florida is a football factory, we just keep cranking them out

S.M.

Thanks for that!

If it wasn’t for some Florida kids (one in particular, even if I felt he was woefully misused) recent years may have been even more unbearable.

With at least half the SEC teams continually in the top 25 in recruiting, it’s going to be hard for any other conference to be on top like we are every year.

Bama, Florida, Georgia, USCe, LSU, UT, Ole Miss, Miss St and even UK are doing great in recruiting so I don’t see the SEC dropping anytime soon

Florida will go 11-1 with a loss to either LSU or Mizzou, but will go on to beat Bama in Atlanta and once again dominate Ohio State in the BCS Championship. Mortal lock.

The Citadel will have a losing record per usual, but still manage to crush VMI.

Have you been to Texas?? I have family down there, was there last weekend. Football is a religion…they have high school stadiums that rival some D3 colleges; high school football dominates local news sports pages. Amazing.

2 weeks from tomorrow till Kick-off…

Go Blue

Pleeeeeease. That’s one of the biggest myths in sports. How Texans have convinced people that their state is God’s gift to football is beyond me.

National Championships to come out of the State of Texas over the past 30 years: 1

National Championships to come out of the State of Florida over the past 30 years: 10 (from three different schools).

You do the math.

What part of what I said is a myth? I am not from Texas, and generally don’t care about Texas (or Florida, for that matter); that said, it is true that in Texas football is a religion. It is not that way in NC I assure you. Here basketball is king and football a pleasant diversion until basketball season.
