Nazi hideout found in remote Argentine jungle

Probably legit, but harder to believe.

If they were made in Germany for export…they might have been labeled that way…who knows?

Enough chops to get to a remote Argentine location, from war torn Germany, construct an elaborate compound out of rocks and then resort to buying locally Argentine-imported, but German-made porcelain?

Possible, I suppose.

There are still walled compounds scattered throughout Argentina and other south American countries where descendants of the Nazi’s still live today and practice their elitism. These compounds are often protected by the local governments due to large sums of money paid by the compounds owners.

Its also useful to remember that Argentina was one of the most affluent countries in the world in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The population is made up of large numbers of German, Italian, French and Spanish stock. The Germans were there way before the Second World War. Now Peron did let a bunch more in. Hell even the current president has a German last name (from her husband’s side). Love the Argentines… If I was on the run that is where I would go…

IIRC there was a significant German population in Argentina, and other parts of South America, prior to 1945. It probably shouldn’t be surprising that many German made goods were imported there. Nazi’s on the run probably only dealt with the local German population and likely bought German made products when possible.

All that said, I’m not sure it constitutes absolute evidence of this being a secret nazi hide out. Mengele damn near lived in the open and many people knew who he was, he had his family visit him more than once. Not sure a jungle fort was necessary.

It very well could be what it is said to be. Just not sure how we jump from Made in Germany to Nazis – inner skeptic, I suppose.

I don’t disagree.

Likely a ton of nazi coins came to Argentina during the war. Locally sourced German product really isn’t proof of anything either. The article mentioned nazi symbols including swastikas on or in the building, but they didn’t show them for some reason.

One thing to think about on pottery like that, The “Made in Germany” to a degree you date that… Pre-war pottery for export, would be marked “Made in Germany” Post-war up until reunification, Would be marked "Made in W.(West) Germany’ After reunification back to “Made in Germany” Looking at the style of the lettering, I’m thinking that’s Pre-war…

I’ll ask my former mother in law about this, she’s an expert on Nazi’s.

I think the serial number on her Nazi Party membership card is in the low triple digits. So she should know for sure.

In that case she would have been a member of the DAP as it hadn’t become the NSDAP yet.

I know it was a joke.

You got me. Serves me right for not actually watching the video. :suicide:

To my knowledge Wernher von Braun never conducted human experiments on victims of the Holocaust. He was a weapons designer for his country, no more a war criminal IMHO than Eugene Stoner or Mikhail Kalashnikov.

However “The Father of Space Medicine” Hubertus Strughold who designed the pressure suits and onboard life support systems for both the Gemini and Apollo astronauts did conduct human experiments on unwilling victims at Dachau where he exploded live subjects in pressure chambers.

It’s been rightly said that there was no US / USSR space race, that it was in fact a German / USSR space race.

Yes, because as someone who lived in Germany for close to a decade, I can tell you that would not be uncommon to see German made items marked in English. Especially if those items were being exported.

No different than markings on HK firearms, Glocks, etc…

Nazis? In Argentina?

Sounds like the HMS Illustrious needs to finish what the Invincible couldn’t.

Anyone seen the Top Gear episode when they went to Argentina? They said they were driving through Berlinoche while Jeremy Clarkson had “H982 FKL” license plate

I loved it. They always seem to have a way of pissing of the locals, lol.

Of course now Clarkson has pissed of the BBC and the show may be cancelled.

I knew about the experiments, didn’t realize we actually brought that guy on board. Shouldn’t be surprised I guess.
