NAVSUP wants M4/7.62x39mm platforms

Probably something already on the market that would meet this requirement?:

An M4 in 7.62X39 is the sporting equivalent of a football bat. Nothing surprises me anymore from big military. Except for wasting money, they can’t do anything right.

LOL.

“Gotta have a 2-stage trigger, but an adjustable one would be great!”

Seriously… I think they’re trying to screw this up on purpose.

Thank god no funds are committed.

This is the real problem with this fishing expedition. The .gov wants you to give them a bunch of free shit and you get NOTHING in return.

I think the concept is a good idea, and I think there plenty of smart as hell gun people out there that can make it work. The rub is a company that can produce the quantity that is likely to be needed in the time allowed with quality where it needs to be. I only see one solution for that SR47.

This is market research IAW the FAR.

They are asking you to submit a 3 page capabilities doc.

Once the requirement is validated and becomes fully funded, they will already have their market research complete.

If only one offeror is fully qualified, it can be sole sourced.
If two or more SDVOSBs/ HUBzone/ WOSBs are deemed fully qualified, it will automatically be set aside per the “rule of 2.”

This is why you often see requirements written to such a level of detail that all potential offerors other than what the customer wants are excluded- “must have an ‘open top’ slide design with a slide mounted safety, second strike capability, exposed trigger bar, and a lanyard loop.”

Obviously we know what pistol they’re talking about, and slide mounted safety and exposed trigger bar are not desirable features, but they would be hoping that Taurus doesn’t respond because then they can just drive on and get their money so they can get their guns…

That is some funny shit right there.

While I appreciate the education, the process to get to funding is irrelevant to me as my comment was all about end game. I doubt there will be a winner in this venture and certainly no real money is on the table.

You don’t get it…

If you send them anything other than 3 pieces of paper, I guarantee you it will be returned at your expense.

There is no test scheduled, no competition, this is an unfunded effort…

This is based on some theoretical requirement that may arise in the future. Evidently somebody in the Navy thought it was worth gathering information for.

BTW, they’re also looking at 9mm pistols. Is this written to favor a specific model?:

Can’t open the doc from here. But my first thought was why? Second thought wouldn’t a .300 Blackout more or less fit the bill seeing that with super sonic ammo it basically mimics 7.62X39 ballistics? Couldn’t read the doc, again, so I have no idea what they are wanting out of this exactly.

Also, note, am not a .300Blk fan boy, just thought it made more sense then an M4 in 7.62X39. Then again, considering this is the military, the fact they want the round that makes less sense makes perfect sense.

No, those are broad specs.

This part was interesting:

“Scalable” size suppressor is desired

I’ve wondered about this myself- what about a 3" 9mm suppressor with removable endcap that can also accept a 3" extension to provide twice the baffles/ twice the volume?

It would be cool.

It’s obviously so you don’t have to stock separate mags and ammo for your advisors.

KAC SR-47.

I hate to reference it but they maybe looking for a call of duty-like solution. Pick up mags off dead bad guys and fight on. .300 blackout can’t be found in the states it seems while 7.62x39 is easily found in hostile environments.

If 7.62x39-filled mags can be found in hostile environments, so can the AK’s that fire them.

Or they can mimic the Fins (Finland) a buy some quality Chinese AK’s on the cheap that would do the exact same thing?

Like some other posters have opined…Looking to just waste money.

I’m all for our military getting the best equipment but another specially spec’ed 7.62x39 bullet launcher???

I moved this here.
Arguing about the merit of this simply shows the ignorance of the posters, and explaining it really isn’t something I want out in the open.
