Myself and my roommate have had a good run at the some matches this summer against other cops. We just got back from the annual APOA (Alaska Peace Officers Association) shoot in Fairbanks which is a pistol shoot. In the past they ran USPSA rules then last year some complained that it was not tactical enough so they used NRA tactical competition rules which is like IDPA with much more severe penalties. For example a C zone hit is 2 seconds, a D zone is 4 seconds and a miss is 10 seconds. Dropping a loaded mag is 10 seconds. I think some people thought that changing the rules would change the outcome of the match. But the same shooters did well it just changed how you shot a bit. They did change the way prizes were given out. In the past the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place shooters won guns this year they gave guns away by drawing only. The winners still got trophies. I got 1st place and my roommate got 2nd place individually out of 31 shooters. We also took the top team award. We had a good time.
A few weeks before that we shoot at the Chatanika Ironman Steel match. They put the match in the Front Sight Magazine last year. It’s a Steel Challenge match that had 51 shooters. I took the top leo award there and my roommate got 2nd. That said there were only 3 of us cops. My overall standing was 11th out of 51. A week before that the Anchorage APOA chapter hosted a three gun match and I took 1st place in that and my roommate got 3rd. Sorry I don’t have videos from the three gun match and the steel match. I was RO’ing in both of those and did not have time. A disclaimer on the three gun match. I designed the stages and RO’d. There were 36 shooters at the three gun match. I got 1st overall and 1st in pistol while my roommate got 3rd overall and 1st in shotgun.
