I’ve been trying something new recently:
Various Canadians keep calling it a “poor man’s Tavor.” Well, I wouldn’t say it competes with the Tavor much, but it is a fun little gun to try out. ![]()
The latest version of the Norinco T97, imported by North Sylva as the T97NSR, manufactured by EMI aka Norinco in the People’s Republic of China. This bullpup 5.56 rifle is non-restricted in Canada, and accepts most AR-15 magazines.
This rifle uses a short stroke gas piston and a rotating bolt, along with a reciprocating charging handle.
The T97 was originally imported as non-restricted until an RCMP investigation discovered that they could be easily converted to full-auto. That model was re-classified as a prohibited firearm and all those in private hands were confiscated (I believe the federal government paid $800 each for them to the owners).
Click the photo if anyone wants a really biiiig version of it!
