My tiny review on Hogue's AK handguard

I purchased Hogue’s new handguard set from their AK series line of accessories. The bottom piece is covered in their overmold rubber while the top piece is hard plastic. The bottom piece has a heat shield. They sell two version of the kit. One with a pistol grip and one without. Also you get two top pieces; a railed and non-railed version. They also offer it in different colors.

I find it much better then most railed handguards due to it being light weight and much having a much sleeker profile. The three removable rail pieces for the sides and bottoms are plastic and almost appear to be the same size as Magpul’s MOE pieces but they are not compatible with Magpul’s rails. So no go on swapping their rails without some modding.

If you’re looking for a Magpul MOE style handguard for your AK then go with Hogue’s set. They work well, fit nicely, have no wiggle to them, and are comfy. Lastly they’re affordable; around $40-$50 at most places.

Thank you for sharing!

I run the Hogue lower handguard on my SGL-21 with an Ultimak.

Very tight/tough fit at first (because of the Ultimak), but I absolutely love the feel.

How is the heat dissipation on those hand guards? Does it get unbearably hot after few magazines like most others?

I’m rock’n a ghillie tan Hogue lower HG on my SAR-1. Prefer it over my stippled K-VAR HG. As for heat, haven’t done a mag dump with them yet but they do come with a metal heat shield like the K-VAR/Arsenal HGs.

The heat shield works well. I’ve done some mag dumps through my WASR with my three 75 round drum mags and it wasn’t uncomfortable to grab.
