Probably screwed up the posting of pics. Never done it before.
thought I would show pics of my reason for Magpuls, though now I install them 90 degrees from this. Was on a warrant service and had to transition to pistol to get through a barn full of motorcycle frames and crap after clearing the main house. Needed a free hand to keep balance and move things…Commando hanging from sling got hung up but could not mess with it due to having to cover things and move, so I just pushed on through. Afterward, I found that I had hung up on the mag and the base plate bent nearly 90 degrees, breaking off two of the metal tabs that hold it on. The spring (one of the “red” ones that Elmore sells at SAW worked its way out several coils…Oh shit!
Reloaded fresh mag, finished the job and went back to our range. I wanted to see how many rounds would fire before failure (had an ID tech take photos first)…19 fired without a hitch! The magpul was the only thing that kept the bottom end together and all my rounds in place with enough spring pressure to feed. Nice to know that had I needed it, the Commando would have been more than a single shot that day (without the reload).
I know that many are now turning to Pmags and I do not have any experience with them so I do not know what would have happened with a Pmag in this case. But I do know that I do not use any M4 mags for work without Magpuls on them. I sent these photos to Magpul when it happened (a year or so ago). Do not know why I never posted them I guess all the Pmag talk prompted me to think about the Magpuls a little more…
