My new single shot upper

I went to the range yesterday and try out my two new builds. I load one round in the first rifle and fire. The action did not cycle. I load one more round, same result. I put the rifle away thinking I missed something when assembling. Later after getting the kids to bed I go and take a look.

There was no sign of any gas getting to the BGC at all.

I know I’m being vague here but can anyone guess what I found?

Upside down gas tube?
ETA: I’ve heard of that happening but it seems like that might cause some goofy binding in the upper…

No hole in the barrel or gas block?

I was gonna say no gas tube at all. So what do we win if we get it right;)

No barrel?Oh wait a minute…

Assuming that you have all of the parts installed, I would guess that the gas port in the barrel is not lined up correctly with the gas block. If it is misaligned a little too far, it would prevent the gas from entering the tube. If your gas block and tube look aligned…it may be a problem with the gas port in the barrel being drilled in the wrong spot. Maybe a few pictures of the rifle would help us further diagnose…

Mike

This is most likely the cause.

I’m going to go with “no gas hole in the barrel.”

Rifle gas system on an SBR? :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is what I would do.

  1. Remove the gas tube and make sure it’s installed properly.

  2. Take a pipe cleaner or something and stick into the bolt carrier key to ensure that there is no obstruction in there (I found a primer in one of ours a few months back).

  3. Use a thin wire and make sure that there is no obstruction in the gas tube.

  4. As a last resort remove the FSB and make sure that the gas port is open.

This one; Oh snap

My vote is for an obstruction of some sort. Inquiring minds want to know.

I’m also going with the upside down gastube. And yes, I have done that before:o

jbsmed is right.

The gas port was not completely drilled through the barrel. It’s drilled about half way. Since the gas block was already installed I didn’t notice. After disassembling the rifle and not noticing anything strange the thought came to me that maybe someone forgot to drill the hole. Well they didn’t forget they just did not finish the job.

Out of curiousity what make/model is this musket?

The barrel is a Sabre.

That sucks!

On the plus side the one time I needed their Customer Service it was phenominal!

They were very responsive, quick to answer emails, patient, and paid shipping both ways to correct the issue.

I feel confident that they will take good care of you. I spoke with Aloysius, and he took excellent care of my problem.

Good luck getting it all sorted out!

Thats definately not something you’d expect from Sabre. Id bet cold hard cash they’ll take care of it in no time.

You might want to check the other barrels you got just in case was a batch of barrels that went out like that.

Glad you figured out what the problem was, and I hope that Sabre makes everything right.

Mike

Eh, you know everyone can screw one up every now and then. It’s how they take care of it that matters.
