My "new" G22 - Police trade in

I got my first glock today (I have always been a 1911/XD guy, but I wanted a gun that I could rough-up without feeling bad ie…not $500+).

A Gen 2 model 22 police trade-in from Summit Gunbroker. It fits my hand way better than the Gen 3s.
The serial no. starts with “CVG”, this isn’t the serial number range that is known to have problems is it?

It has a small wear spot inside the slide next to the chamber (see pic below). Is this normal???

Other then a little holster wear on the front and rear of the slide and the wear inside the slide, it looks pretty damn good. The night sights are still pretty bright.

I am thinking about stippling the grips already. The stock grips could get a little slick in the hot TX summers.

Gen 2 police trade-ins are fun. I’ve got a line on a 2nd Gen G17 PTI for around $300 I’m thinking of picking up and turning into a project gun.

never seen wear in the slide rails like that, wonder what caused it…

Congratulations!
The wear on the inside of the slide is called “peening”. This is normal for .40 cal glock. They only wear to certain point, then stop. Don’t worry about it. Have fun shooting your new pistol. :slight_smile:
How was it dealing with Summit? Can you have them pick a “select” pistol or is it luck of the draw?

I picked up one of the Gen. 3, G22’ trade-ins from Bud’s last year. It was in surprising good condition, less wear than yours.

Dealing with Summit was great. I just called Mark up on the phone and told him that I was interested in a G22 gen 2 and payed with a CC over the phone. I don’t know if he will “select” one or not, just shoot him an email or call.

Shipping was $18. From websight “Shipping is $18 for the first gun and $5 for additional handguns.”

While I was ordering the 22, I asked him if he had any 23s that were Gen 2. He said no, but he is expecting a shipment of 23s in soon and there will most likely be some gen. 2 guns in it. He said he will add them to his websight as soon as they arrive, so keep checking if you are interested.

+1. My G22 had as much wear as this after 200 rds and stayed virtually the same thereafter. The peening is normal.

why does this occur on 40cal glocks, but not 9mm’s? just curious, thanx.

I have a Gen 2 G 17 and is has some peening on the inside of the slide. Works fine.

As I understand it, the frame flexes a little more on the .40, which was built on the same platform initially engineered for the 9mm. Locking block impacts with the slide as a result. There can be peening with various calibers, but seems to have been a little more pronounced in the .40.

so, the locking block on the 40’s jerks upward during recoil, and smacks the slide? :eek:

It is not really jerking. The frame is flexing and impacting the slide. All Glocks do to a certain degree. As Brushy Bill said “it seems to be more pronounced in the 40 cal Glocks”.

Never noticed “peening” on Glocks before. I have a Gen 3 G23 now but I installed a shock buffer. Will this still occur?

That is an interesting question. The frame is still going to flex even with the shock buff. It will still peen, but probably a little slower.
