My new DDM4V5

Finally got my Daniel Defense M4V5 LW together. This started life with the purchase of just the DD complete lower (the receiver is stamped with a Savannah, GA manufacture rather than the Black Creek, GA that is produced today). Purchased this from Grant at G&R Tactical. I then got the V5 LW upper with fixed sights from Chicago Gunsmith.

Pictured here is how my rifle is configured. The Battlecomp has been permanently pinned/welded in place, and the stock has also been pinned in my desired position to make this NJ legal. Also, the mag is the PMag 30 round mag permanently modified to be a 15 rounder

Also swapped out the pistol grip for a Tango Down battle grip, added the Surefire X300 at the 12:00 position, and attached the Vickers sling. Obviously the configuration I chose was inspired by the DDM4 Vickers signature model, but I wanted a mid-length carbine instead.
I was supposed to have the Aimpoint T-1 mounted by now, but due to a problem with two of the screw holes in the sight, it’s been sent back to Aimpoint for warranty.

Got to take it to an indoor range today to test fire. Unfortunately, it’s only a 23 yard range, so I did the best I could with zeroing it. Surprisingly, it shot exactly where I wanted it to at that distance. I adjusted the elevation of the front sight once, but that raised my shots too high, so I put it back to how it was. All 200 rounds fired through it were flawless (mix of XM193 and reloads).

Can’t wait to get the Aimpoint back and mounted, and to hit a real rifle range soon!

Did you pin the BC due to state requirements? I’m wondering, because that looks (minus the sights) exactly like the rifle I put together with a G&R DD lower and a Smartgunner DD upper. Since the barrel is 16", my BC is not pinned and welded.

If it’s due to NJ requirements, I feel for you. My Stepson is stationed at McGuire AFB near Philly, and he drools all over my collection when he’s home on leave.

Yep, the BC is pinned only because it’s required in NJ. The other option would have been to somehow remove the threads I suppose.

Very nice rifle, I wish I had gone the V5 route before I bought my V3. No worries, the V3 is awesome and it can shoot. Have fun and I hope you find your way to a free state someday.

Nice rifle, I recently switched from a LWRCi M6A2 to a DD V5, not that the M6A2 was bad, I ran it for 3 years and 25 - 30K rds, It was just heavier. I couldn’t be happier with the DD after about 4k so far.

forrest -

Very nice! I got my DDM4 V5 about about a month ago. I’ve since put 500 rounds through it and I really like it. This is my first AR, so nothing really to compare to beyond my friend’s modified SP6920. I’ve noticed that the DDM4 is MUCH lighter than his SP6920. Not sure if it’s all the modifications (DD Omega rail, PWC muzzle brake, upgraded stock, etc.), but it is noticably heavier. I did have a few FTF, but that appears to be limited to some 10 round metal Pro Mags that came with the AR. Don’t seem to have any problems with PMags though.

I’ve since added Troy BUIS, EoTech 512 and swapped out the ladder rail covers for some LWRC rail covers and have Troy rail covers on it’s way to try as well.

I really like the setup that you have with the Surefire X300 up front with the fixed sights. For my next AR, I want it to have fixed sights with an Aimpoint Micro with 1/3 lower cowitness. I was thinking about either the DDM4 V1 or BCM Mid-16. Since I already have a DDM4, I was leaning towards the BCM Mid-16. Now I may try fixed sights on the BCM Recce-16 in a setup very similar to yours. That way I have a lot more flexibility if I find that I don’t care for the fixed sights or just want to try another setup. I also like that BCM offers their uppers with 14.5" with pinned flash hiders installed by them. If DD ever gets their fixed sights back in stock, I’ll probably go with those or the fixed Troy sights.

Yes, very nice. I really like the V5 LW. I bought a stripped lower from Grant along with a lower parts kit. Then found a V5 LW on Gunbroker and have close to the same setup as you do. I’ve put around 350 rounds through mine without any problems.

I’m seeing more and more people using rails that accommodate the front site post. I recently changed my LE6920 from a MOE fore end over to a DD Omega X 12" FSP rail. I also picked up a Surefire X300 to mount in the 12 o’clock position.

I really like the light in that position, as it is easily activated shooting from either the strong or weak side, and when shooting from cover, you don’t have as much concern about blinding yourself when you active your light.

Additionally, I’ve found that I am much more stable when I transition aim from one target to another, because I have my support arm extended further out on the rail.

acaixguard definitely has a well set-up gun. One question, have you tried attaching your sling to the QD socket on the receiver end plate? I prefer having attached there as I don’t have to unsling the weapon when transitioning to the weak side.

Thanks guys!

I did try QD sling attachment on the receiver end plate, but I didn’t really like how it felt. Sorta made it feel “tighter” around me. Maybe I’m just not used to it yet.

Now if I can just get my replacement Aimpoint unit back! 6-9 week wait on that :suicide:

Did the Pro Mags come from Daniels, or the shop that sold you the Daniels? I can’t imagine a company like Daniels associating themselves with crap products like Pro Mags.

Disclaimer- I have never used ProMags in my ARs. After having major problems using them in one of my handguns, I never even considered it. My ARs only uses either DSG Arms USGI 30rd, Pmag 30rd, or PMag 20 rds.

That is not a “pro-mag” in his gun, look closely it is a Pmag by magpul. I have seen some places online that alter pmags in different ways and so they are compliant with various state regs, Nevermind I see what you are talking about!

The 10-round metal Pro Mags were provided by the shop that sold me the DDM4. There appears to be a grey area in local firearms laws and this shop takes the conservative approach, so they don’t provide the PMag 30rd that comes with it.

I mentioned the FTF to someone in another local gun shop and he also mentioned the follower springs in the Pro Mags as the likely cause of the FTF. It appears to only be happening with one of the two Pro Mags that I have. No problems with PMags.

What is the capacity your state allows and what are the capacity for M4 magazines in general besides 30 and 20, specifically from PMag which I am a fan of.

Very nice! I have a DD M4V3 LW (upper) and love the light weight barrel.

Well they don’t make a 15 which would be ideal in this case. I suppose it does make sense to start with the shorter 20 since you have to block down to 15 anyway.

Check out these 15/30 PMags. Basically 30 round mag that has been permanently blocked to 15. They worked flawlessly for me in my range session. I heard great things from others too.

Two things to note about these mags based on my observations. The base is pinned so you cannot disassemble the mag for cleaning (unless you remove the pin). Also, it was hard to properly seat a fully loaded mag when the bolt is closed. Just like the recommendation to download the 30 round mags, these should by at least one.

Looks good OP - enjoy it.

And man am I glad I don’t live in NJ anymore

Man, do you have to rub it in??? :shout:

But thanks!

nice rifle im trying to get funds to get one

Two or three days until I pick mine up.
