[b]I’ve had an A1 upper for years sitting in a box, waiting for me to build it into something.
I added a CMMG lower, CMMG LPK, and an old two position stock set that I had, and came up with this:
Next, I sourced a 16" M4 barrel… 1/7 twist for the heavier bullets I prefer (I couldn’t find a lightweight barrel at all, go figure):
Handguards aren’t mounted, my slip ring and barrel nut are in the mail, along with my charging handle and A2 flash hider. Next week I’ll be ordering a F/A BCG and putting the upper together… then it’s off to the range for some old school iron sight shooting.
Although I think there are 90deg mag holders (two mags coupled together) I think that what you typically see in pictures are the single mag holders. They are not allowed to carry a weapon with a mag in the mag well so there is a plastic faux mag that inserts into the mag well and has a holder that keeps a real mag at the ready.
CAR. If you were running a flatop M3 or M4 upper I would go with the M4 handguards.
Like you, I have seen several pictures of older type receivers with new (to them)M4 profile barrels. This gives the appearance of an older weapon that under went a armory barrel replacement to prolong its use in the field. I like the look. YMMV
The upper is off to ADCO (barrel isn’t drilled for FSB pins, I don’t feel comfortable doing that) for drilling and putting together.
I think I’m going to go with a black MIAD like -Wes- 's (I like the ability to store a bolt and firing pin and it looks 99% like an A1 grip) and probably will put a RIS/RAS on there as well.
Once the upper is back I’ll take another picture and post it up!
