Hey guys, this is my first personal rifle, besides the 22’s that are my dads, bought is about a month ago and I am loving it. It is a DPMS. Paid 800 and got the gun, quad rail, 6 position stock, red/green dot sight, 2 mags, and rounds. Let me know what you guys think.
OP no offense but your setup is not gonna get alot of positive feedback here.
On another note, Everyone starts somewhere and as long as youre out there shooting the hell out of your rifle thats all that matters. When it breaks down you will at least have experience of how you want your next one set up and realize that picatinny gas blocks are useless as an asshole on an elbow.
Opt for a good folding rear sight and use them until your optic doesnt hold zero or melts off.
First of all welcome to the forum. Second, as a warning most members here are pretty serious about their rifles and from their personal experiences in either Military service or Law Enforcement are not very forgiving when it come to the commercial rifles. Third, this is a custom build forum, as the sticky at the top of the thread reads:
"The custom build area is a place to show off and or ask questions about your custom build. If you are going to post pictures of your build, please post a complete picture not just your parts, partial lowers, etc…
Also, buying an upper separate and then a lower and throwing them together does not constitute a custom build. It would also be nice if you took time to explain how you came to your decision and explain your set up. Thanks."
Good luck with the rifle brother, do yourself a favor and use the search engine on this sight and read ALOT!!! I have learned soooo much here and it will do you some good. There are alot of good people here that have alot of great information for someone like yourself who is just starting out on the AR/M4 adventure so to speak. Get some mags, ammo, targets and training and have fun with it
welcome to the forum OP. Have you shot it yet? How many rounds did you get with it for that price?
As others have said, don’t expect a lot of love for your rifle on this site, but as long as you are shooting it, that is what matters. Be prepared to be convinced to buy a new rifle in the not too distant future from members on this forum.
Thanks guys for the welcome. After reading a few threads I’ve found out that DPMS isn’t really a highly liked brand. But as a first gun I think its great. Im learning the basics on it and am planning on buying another in the future. Since I purchased it ive put around 400-500 rounds through it. And it came with 100 rounds when I bought it (to a previous question). Its shoots great haven’t had any problems with it yet. Only with the metal mags that came with it. Spring jams sometimes. I want to get some iron sight put on it soon. I want to master using iron sights. Batteries don’t last forever haha. With everybody here I know I will learn alot. Negative comments wont hurt my feelings at all, if its something I should know feel free to tell me. I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff and I will take all the help I can get. Don’t mean to offend any of the military or law enforcement with my lack of knowledge. Thanks again for the comments feel free to bullshit.
I just sold my month-old Oracle in favor of a custom build with BCM parts, I have to say that I don’t regret it, but if you’re just going to be shooting occasionally for fun, you shouldn’t have much issue. I didn’t have it long enough to put it through any severe stress, but I know how I use my guns, and decided it wouldn’t work for what I wanted it to. Enjoy it if you keep it, but know that the market is pretty good right now, and if you decide to go with a better product, you can probably get 110% back out of your investment if you play your cards right.
Hey thanks man. Yea the main thing ill be using my gun is for shooting around for fun and maybe hunting on occasions. What do you think?? Would this one be good enough for that?? Mine is a sportical. The newest model.
No… I’m almost 100% yours is an Oracle, just like mine.
The Sportical is about the cheapest junk you could buy…
No forward assist or dust cover on any of the ones I have ever seen. The Oracle is the nicer of the two. It has a 1/9 barrel (which is undesirable from what I’ve read), dust cover, and forward assist. Mine came with some accessories, but it was definitely an Oracle.
Good on you for being open minded and really intending to use your weapon. Youre on the right track. Shoot it, learn the basics, read/browse/search the site, and evolve, then later, get something that fits your needs.
That said, i agree with JHoward. If you get a good price for it, i wouldnt hesitate to sell it and get a better starting point, so to speak.
Not to hijack, but that’s my Oracle. I got $1000 for everything you see in the picture, minus the Glock…
And I was able to build a nice BCM 14.5" Mid Length with a Battlecomp and complete it by scouring the forums and gun selling websites.
As said, if you’re happy, and you’re not planning on putting your life in the hands of the weapon, or taking intense classes with it, you should be OK. If something were to break or malfunction, the most you would be out is the money for the replacement part and the trip to the range.
Good for you. Take your time with the rifle you have and learn what works and more importantly…what doesn’t. Folks here seem to feel a need to “keep up with the joneses” and get bullied into buying a rifle based on opinion, not their own use. Enjoy what you have, ask questions and see what works best for you, not the net. There are tons of parts out there that can easily be swapped around. Don’t for a minute believe you need a whole new rifle when maybe only a barrel or trigger group will suffice.
Man, I’m sorry. I have not meant to come off like I have been. I have learned a lot in the month since I got my DPMS, which I have been trying to share, but the truth is, if I would have never done the research, I would have probably been perfectly happy with my Oracle for a long time. You should have seen me the day I brought it home, I was like a kid on Christmas!
Truth is, I would have never known any difference if I would have never put this BCM mid together. And I would have been happy. So whatever you do, do it for you! I think it’s a gorgeous rifle, and it will serve you well. Good luck man!
Yeah, thats the rifle I started out with. I got mine at a steal for $450. I soon moved on and now have a Noveske/Daniel Defense kinda hybrid thing. Spent more, but I’m confident it will serve its purpose just fine for a while.
Yea man that’s why I like going into forums, to learn and improve my gun based on what fits me and not what everybody else has. I will definatly stick with my gun for a long while and just get another in the future. Maybe pass down tlmy first rifle to my son one day.
Nahh man you haven’t come off as anything but nice. And I understand how you felt, I was soo determined to get this gun I sold a shit load of my stuff just to get it lol and that day I got it I went crazy with excitement. Went shooting that dame day. And thanks for all the info I will update this thread with all my new gear and mods. Good luck with your rifle too man!!
You didn’t ask, but this is what I got out of my DPMS and accessories. Doesn’t look like much, but I’m still waiting on the stock and the bolt to come in. The charging handle came in today.
It’s a mid length gas system upper. 14.5" barrel with a pinned battle comp 1.5. Should be a very nice shooting rifle.
