My New 6.5 Grendel SASS

awesome shooting. the Grendel is a tack driver

Good shooting and nice rifle! How are you liking the scope?

Yesterday was the first time I used the scope, so it’s difficult to give it a fair assessment as I need some time to get better acquainted with it. Initial impressions are positive. Clarity is good. I like the 34mm tube. I did find the parallax adjustment a little tricky to get right. The vortex PST I traded in for this scope has a big parallax focus knob , on the XTRII its small and more difficult to manipulate. I think the vortex allowed for a greater range of parallax adjustment. With the Burris even at 4 power I had to turn the paradox down to its lowest setting (50) to get a clear scope picture. At shorter distances I don’t think the scope would be usable. That’s fine with me as this is a long range rig but I think that it’s worth mentioning

What, specifically, do you like about the 34mm tube?

Switching from a 30mm that tube to a 34mm tube feels like going from a 50" TV to a 70" TV. The scope picture is bigger, it’s more immersive. I find it’s also faster and easier for your eye to get focused when you first look into the scope.

Placebo effect or confirmation bias. A 34mm tube offers nothing in terms of “immersion”, “bigger picture”, or light gathering ability (at least in the mag range you’ve selected) over a properly executed 30mm tube or a 25.4mm (1 inch) tube. The advantage of a 34 tube is adjustability and robustness. I suspect you’re not used to quality optics. A 1" tube Zeiss, Swaro, or Leica will likely blow you away compared to the Burris.

Not trying to bust your balls as I’ve been there too. Welcome to the higher midrange level of optics.

I am just mentioning how the scope felt to me. I would not rule out placebo effect. I think that the diameter of the eye price is probably larger on this scope compared with what I am familiar with. Furthermore this is the most expensive scope I have ever owned so could be optics quality.

optics quality my friend… you get what you pay for.
