I took a Spikes M4LE upper and attached it to a DPMS AP4 Lower.
I am impressed with the Spikes upper and its quality. Its more accurate than I am for sure and it shoots so much smoother than the rifle did when it was all DPMS.
I have a idea of where I want the trigger setup to be but have yet to decide on what to get. (research time)
Here are some photos of her…She has earned her place in my patrol car and will be joined soon by a sister from BCM in a longer barrel length that I am getting parts together for a Long Range Rifle School I have next year.

and after
I like it, its a nice setup for me and my needs. I am looking forward to seeing what BCM can do now that I have had a taste of much better.
Your sling is falling short. It’s nothing mor than a carrying strap.
A sling on a patrol rifle is a utility in and of itself. You ought to look into a VCAS or VTAC type sling. Preferably a 2 point. You wont regret having it on your weapon, and it will increase the useability of it as well.
I know, I actually have a single point sling and am looking into the magpul sling. That sling was what the type required for the patrol rifle course I attended. You had to be in two types of sling positions, loop and hasty sling. The instructor made it clear that he wouldn’t allow us to use anything else for qualifying. As for duty use it’s not a big deal. But when we qual we have to go back to those sling style.
Nice looking rifle. Dropping a Timmeny trigger in it would make a nice addition although might be too light of a trigger for your application. All depends on how you like your trigger.
I’ve used grill paint on a cheap shotgun receiver and barrel about 5 years ago and it has worked great. I don’t use the gun a lot, it’s next to my front door for chipmunks. I’ve never used grill paint on plastic, so that might not work well–I can’t find my can of it to check.
