My Geissele trigger experience....

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience with a Geissele Super Dynamic - Enhanced trigger I recently purchased.

Installation was easy, as expected. It truly is a drop in kit.

After installing the trigger, the first thing I noticed was that my current safety selector is probably a bit out of spec, as it rubbed. This caused the safety to bind up at about 75 degrees. It took an extra push to get it to go the full 90. This was temporarily remedied by a little Dremel work on the safety. Always grind the protruding walls to make the channels larger, not the valleys of the channels themselves. I have a BAD-ASS on the way for this lower, which will be a permanent fix to this.

The next thing I noticed is that the first stage of the trigger feels very rough and notchy without grease. (It felt the same even without the safety installed so that was not the issue.) They aren’t lying when they recommend greasing the trigger. Note that even without grease, the second stage break was absolutely perfect with absolutely no creep. So, the next thing I did was apply the supplied grease to the recommended surfaces.

Grease solved much of the first stage grittyness issue that I noticed, but not all. The first stage still didn’t feel as smooth as I expected, even after applying grease to all the contact points.

So, I sent an email to Geissele. Bill is the one that replied, and his advice was to rapidly pull through the first stage 200-300 times, stopping at the second stage wall and not actually dropping the hammer. So, for the next 15 - 20 minutes I did this at a fairly fast pace. I did not accidentally pull through the second stage one time. That is quite amazing, considering that this is a fairly light trigger. It is a testament to the precision and repeatability of the break.

Afterward, I removed the grease from the unit and re-applied new grease. The first stage is now absolutely smooth and has that overflowing beer mug sliding along a bar table feel. The second stage is as crisp and repeatable as ever.

What to take out of this?

First, use the grease. And don’t be shy about it.

Second, if the trigger feels a little rough, work it a bunch and it will break in nicely.

Third, Geissele’s customer service is top notch. Bill answered my email in the middle of the night within 10 minutes of me sending it. He also offered to send out a new trigger and I could send back the one I had at my convenience.

Fourth, the Geissele SD-E is now one of the finest triggers I’ve felt after working it a little bit. I’ve had my hands up the skirts of a lot of fine rifles, so that is quite an accomplishment.

Buy with confidence.

Also, I should mention that I do not believe the SD-E to be a liability on a fighting rifle. The trigger is light, yes, but it is repeatable. Rest assured that if the hammer drops it will be because you intended it to. I do not believe it is necessary to go with the SSA or SD-C on a fighting rifle. There is plenty of travel in the SD-E first stage and an extremely perceivable wall at the end of the first stage. If you let a round off that you didn’t intend to with the lighter Enhanced series triggers (SD-E or SSA-E) it is because of a personal training deficiency, and not at all an issue of trigger selection.

Thanks a0cake, your a classy gent for not running off and crying the moment you had a problem with a new product and rather worked first behind the scenes to remedy your problem. Great write-up and keep us posted on you like it down the road.

Thanks for the write up. Y ou cemented my decision to use the sd-e on my current (and first) project.

I have 11 Giessele SSA-E triggers. They have all been flawless and perfect! Obviously I am a BIG believer in these triggers!

Wow. That’s about $2,200 worth of triggers! Whatever you do, do NOT try the Super Dynamic series, LOL.

Now that explains why my bank account is empty!! I just bought a Jewel for my 40XB

i have shot my buddies ar-10 with their 2 stage trigger. it was flawless. no grittyness at all. i was impressed. i spoke to them at camp perry’s here in ohio at venders row. very good customer service. after using my buddies trigger, i went back to my stock one. i thought it was broke at first since i had to pull about 8x harder. truly an incredible trigger. planning on getting one for myself some day. lol

Will the Geiselle triggers fit an LMT MWS?? Just curious.

Yes. No issues there.

What platforms do you use these on?

I am a big proponent of consistency in gear and weapon systems, meaning if I put in a aftermarket trigger in my light precision RECCE, I want a trigger that feels similar in my “close in” gun. It may not be necessary since they are two totally different platforms, but that’s what’s holding me back from going the aftermarket trigger route.

To really get to the point, for the light precision RECCE, I plan to shoot out to 500 or so. I am only concerned with getting between 1-2 moa out of the rifle (practical accuracy) as opposed to benchrest, “squeeze out all the accuracy I can get”. Can a stock trigger give me that? Or would I need an aftermarket for those distances?

Just to note, I am currently building the RECCE, so I can’t just go out right now and try it, or I would (instead of posting here). Also, I have never shot a Geissele or any aftermarket trigger for that matter, so NO experience there to draw from.

I am also a great proponent of consistency. I am using the SSA-E’s in LWRC M6 SPR, LMT MRP CQB piston and one in my LMT DI gun. I have it in my Rock River Varmint gun that goes out to 500 yards. Also My Adams Arms Evo Ultra Lite, 4 Colt’s and 2 more Bushmaster lowers with different uppers (one Colt in 9mm and the other is dedicated .22LR). The trigger pulls are consistent across the board. I can pick up each weapon system and there are no surprises. I also for my carry weapons limit myself to the Glock platform. I carry at different times a G23/G19/G36/G30/G17/G32 and a G26…they are set up the same. I have range guns that are set up quite differently. The ones that I depend on my life however are the same.
Giessele will easily take you from 10 yards to 800yards. I have not used stock triggers for precision work in quite some time. My Remington 40XB Bench rifle sports a Jewel trigger. My 10/22 custom bench rifle sports a 2 stage kidd 3oz/6oz trigger! Yes that is correct…3 oz!!

WOW! Someone with more Geissles than Pappabear!! :stuck_out_tongue:
