Walther PPQ M2 9mm
Sig 229 Extreme Elite 9mm
Glock 19 4th Gen
For Back up or subcompact
S&W Shield 9mm
Glock 26 4th Gen
All my guns have Night sights from Meprolight or TFO’s
All this guns are 100% reliable and great shooters and if I may say so they have never malfunctioned in any way.
I have owned and carried a version of the Glock’s or the Sig 229 for many years, the new ones are the Walther and the Shield but they have replaced the Glock’s and the Sig.
Which guns are your favorite guns and do you trust them 100%?
How often do you shoot them or are they safe queens and which one you carry most of the time?
Glock 19 3rd Generation
Ruger SP 101 .357 Magnum - Spur less
Browning Buckmark SS Bull Barrel .22 Caliber (for training the firearm novices) which has the best stock trigger I’ve ever experienced.
I’m in Illinois so no carry…yet.
In order:
SA TRP
Kimber TLE
Colt Government
Glock 17 GEN 4
SIG P226/Beretta M9 (toss up that goes to the SIG because the kids love it)
Para-Ordnance P14-45. Yea, yea… I know. But mine is a 1993 model that runs flawlessly. After several thousand rounds and being carried all the time (it was my only handgun for years) I sent it to Novak’s for a new bbl and other upgrades. It gives the ergo and trigger of a 1911 with 14+1 and fits my large meat hooks better than a single stack. It was also my first ever firearm so there is some sentimental attachment. Bottom line - if I could only have one pistol this would be it. Even my friends and coworkers notice my times improve when I break it out at matches.
Glock 17, Gen 4. Grippier than a Gen 3 and softer shooting. Hard to beat 18 rounds of 9mm and its simplicity. Without Grip Force Adapters my love of Glocks would fade into just tolerating them as they’d cut my hand and point high.
HK USP9. Yes, it’s a bit dated and the proprietary rail means running it with the Surefire adapter and limited holster selections or with no light. The DA trigger sucks but it’s a Variant 1 so I carry it cocked and locked. Softest shooting 9mm I’ve used and it’s uber reliable. I’m convinced if I could stuff the magazine with rocks the gun would load them.
M&P 340. Super light and disappears no matter what I’m wearing. It’s pretty much always on me. Big dot front sight and a U notch rear. Once I get the CT laser grips it will be complete.
Glock 34, Gen 4. Though a recent addition to the family I find myself taking it out to shoot more than the others lately. The trigger is lighter than the standard Glock setup and a bit heavier than my G17L. Great size for a do it all sidearm.
** Thought hard about putting the G19 on the list as it’s a marvelous compromise between controllability and concealability. But I’m a big guy and can get away with concealing larger pistols (thus the P14 and G34 making the list). And I carry a G21 w/ X300 concealed all the time on and off duty.
1950’s vintage S&W K-22 with a 6" barrel, Magna stocks, and a Tyler T-Grip or a Pachmayr grip adapter. ANY K-frame set up this way is ridiculously easy to shoot well. The K-22 is super accurate and it feels like it’s growing out of the end of my arm. Damn, I’m old.
G17 cut for G19 mags. My only carry/match gun since I discovered it. I was going to try to shoot a deer with it this year, but life got in the way. Next year for sure…
S&W Model 29-2 with a 4" barrel. Woods gun.
Mark IV Series 70 1911. Lightly customized. My carry gun before I discovered Glocks.
Couldn’t possibly rank them as each is beloved for it’s own character:
J-Frames, 642 & 3" 36-1
P229 Enhanced Elite
Buck Mark Standard
And since I know the Colt 1911 is a favorite even though I was recently coerced into swapping the 1991-A1, I am going to include the one in transit that I haven’t seen yet. Not much of a stretch to expect to swoon over an O1918 Black Army.
Big surprise is the anticipated love I did not feel for full or compact MP45s. Great tools that just did nothing for me.
Out of the handguns that I have actually had/experience with, this is my top five.
1.HK P30 V1 9x19 hands down, this is my current EDC. The take-up is a little long, but with practice, it works very well.
2.M&P FS9, I would honestly own this one now, probably even EDC it instead of the P30 (because of price), if I were not concerned with the issues surrounding it. I do understand that they are mostly resolved, but I will wait a little while longer before giving it another go.
3.Glock 17, concerned with reliability issues, although I have not experienced them with the 17 first hand.
4.Glock 19, I had one with obvious ejection issues, and I am wary of buying again because of this.
5.HK 45c, I would rank the HK 45c higher if I could mount a X300 with no mods. This IMO is the best .45 out there for EDC. If I were going to a .45 handgun, this would be it.
