My first SBR, as well as my first AR

and hopefully not my last! These are too much to build. Just got it back from where it was built:

RRA Lower Receiver
VLTOR Mur-1 Upper Receiver
Timney 4# Skeleton Trigger
Hogue Grip
Bobro Stubby Foregrip
Ace Entry Skeleton Stock
Wolff Xtra Power Spring
Spike’s Tactical ST-T2 Heavy Buffer
G&R Tactical Bolt
CMT Charging Handle
Noveske 7.5" Diplomat Barrel
Primary Weapon Systems FSC556 Compensator
Eotech 512
Yankee Hill Forearm
Troy One-Point Sling

Whatcha guys think? The target isn’t from me, it’s from the builder during initial testing. He said it’s one of the most accurate SBR’s he’s shot with this length barrel.

I’m new to AR’s and SBR’s too. I ordered/paid for my Noveske 7.5" Diplomat about a month ago. I’m not expecting it to be delivered for another month or so. Then the paperwork can start, once we have a serial number. I’m eyeing the new XPS sights from EOTech so save some room on the rails. Let us know how it shoots when you can.

I waited 14 weeks for my Noveske Diplomat barrel. Did you order just a barrel or whole rifle? If you ordered just the barrel start the paperwork now.

I ordered the whole 7.5" Diplomat. I just figured I’d get something that I knew would work and it has most of the good-guy stuff already. I’ll just have to be patient.

damn that things acurate for a 7.5" barrel, alot of SBR’s with that size barrel are lucky to get that kind of groups at 25 yards much less 100.

not trying to be a hater, or start shit, or anything… but you asked!

you spent too much on the upper receiver and not enough on the rail… a MUR and a YHM rail? ack… bad taste, man… i’d pull the MUR, build a precision rifle with it, and stick a plain old A4 and DD lite on the SBR.

if MURs weren’t the single hardest to find item on the planet right now, i dont suppose i’d resent you at all… but since they are, seems like a huge waste.

pretending this isn’t post-obamination: nice build, man… ditch the YHM rail, though…

While the rails are not my cup of tea (I drink the Larue Koolaid :D) I’m diggin’ the new SBR. It also appears to be very very accurate for a 7.5

Let us know how it continues to shoot and shoot it often!!

I would agree with you if some other factors weren’t in play.

  1. I really wanted a piece or two on my rifle that was manufactured here in my home state. Troy and ARMS are both manufactured, but they have backorders to the no end and could never give me an ETA on parts, so they were out.

  2. I’m really digging the end caps that YHM sell now to cover the gas block, etc. No other rail manufacturer does it that I know of.

  3. The guy who built my rifle said everything was nice and tight with the rail. There were no issues with fitments and the finish was perfect.

  4. With the way the rifle test fired at a 100 yards, how can I really justify changing anything? Not much more i could ask for out of a 7.5" SBR.

your happiness with your weapon is the number 1 concern. however, since a dialogue has been asked for and engaged…

the end-caps are only for tube-style guards… which makes for a bigger, bulkier, heavier handguard… and means the handguard has to be made in multiple pieces and then screwed, welded, etc together… which makes it a weaker design. Larue, DD, SWS, for example, machine the entire guard from a single piece of aluminum. rock solid, no weak points. furthermore, i’m pretty sure the only thing keeping your guard in place is that lock-ring at the rear of the threaded barrel nut… that’s not very secure, especially if you plan to use a VFG or hang shit from the guard.

the handguard and upper receiver wont have any effect on accuracy in this weapon- thats why i advocate moving the MUR to a weapon that WILL benefit from the MUR, which is designed for long, heavy barrels. your accuracy in this weapon is coming from your barrel/load combination, and nowhere else.

again, just giving my thoughts.

Gotcha. I don’t really have any intention of hanging stuff from the rail other than the VFG. As for the extra weight, it’s negligible. I don’t even notice the YHM rail being heavier. The rifle as it stands right now is almost too lightweight, I can’t imagine making it lighter. If I start seeing it becoming a problem, I will replace it. As for moving the MUR…probably not. Money is super tight right now as I’m in the process of trying to buy my first home. I didn’t pay any extra for it, I ordered it from Bravo Company for their regular price. I’ve seen them fetching upwards of $500+ on other forums. The M4 feedramps are cut perfect on it and light up exactly with my Noveske. I previously had an RRA flattop upper and was not pleased with the quality of it which let me to change to the MUR for the little bit of money more.

So, for now, it’s staying as is. If i see issues developing I’ll address them as needed. I’ve always had my eyes open for a nice deal on a DD 7" rail, but with the way AR15 parts are selling I’ll never find a deal on one.

Again, thanks for the comments, I know the YHM rail isn’t well liked but it works for me right now.

congrats on the new build, welcome to the club, and welcome to the site.

Thanks, I was referencing this site throughout the build.

woohoo, just bought a 2nd Vltor Mur from Bravo Company. I’m thinking I might use this one for another build. Although, they are going for serious coin over on gunbroker…

Noveske had the Diplomat available for purchase? You lucked out…

Nice blaster…and welcome to the world of the AR. I bet that baby is LOUD with that FSC556.

Loud is good, how loud we talking?

Well, the guys at Scottsdale Gun Club were able to place an order for it. They were confident that Noveske would deliver soon as they had just received a large order from Noveske in the prior week. They had a 10.5" in stock when I bought mine, but I opted for the 7.5" and the wait.

i am waiting for my tax stamps, building two SBR, one is 10.5" noveske with silencer for me, and a 7.5" piston for my wife, i got alot of parts at my house, two 7.5" noveske barrels, a 10.5" upper, a Vltor MUR, fail zero bolt carrier and upper…

Man that thing must be loader than hell with that break.
Great looking blaster.
I agree with others about the rail though, what a waste on a fine gun, but all that matters is that you are happy! You did a hell of a lot better than I on my first.

If someone can really give me a laundry list of valid reasons why I need to change the rail, I will. Otherwise, the YHM rail works great, fits great, it’s not heavy, and it looks good.
