I have wanted an Ar for some time now and I would have probably ended up with a Bushmaster if a friend did not mention building one. I am into cars and love making them my own style so building my own Ar really sparked my intrest. I then started to save money and lurk on this site as well as others and grabbed every Ar oriented magazine at the store. The brand that I kept seeing over and over was BCM so I looked more and more into BCM and decided that I wanted a mid length BCM. My friend gave me his friends number that has built many Ar-15s so I was able to pick his brain about anything I still had in question. So a few days after that phone call parts started showing up at my door. I think he is a member on here but not sure of his username. So I thank him and everyone on here for all the great info that helped me build my very first Ar-15
Now for the list and pictures.

Any comments or advise is greatly appreciated.
And picture of said car
EDIT: This build was mostly funded by my fiance who is also into guns. It is a birthday gift from her to me(and her) and our birthdays are in july. So I have finished and tested the rifle but it will be july before I have too many more updates in this thread but I will post when I can. After shooting it for the first time my fiance and I are now both giddy about shooting again in july.
I am appreciate this post a lot. I am coming into the AR/firearm world from the car world as well and love that I can custom “tune” anything on my AR to my liking.
I like the build! It looks like you got some solid help and advise on your rifle. I hope it serves you well.
Do you have a sling? If not, track down a vcas with sewn in qd attachments. Also, go ahead and grab a good white light and mount. Iwc makes a good one for the moe or you could grab an elzetta. As IG said, stake that castlenut. Lastly, I’d grab a better FCG to have on hand. Otherwise, nice stick.
A Chinese knockoff RDS like the Primary Arms micro-dot on a high round-count centerfire rifle has a higher likelihood of ultimately being a disappointment to you than a real RDS like an Aimpoint or Eotech.
I have a Primary Arms red dot on my medium-quality Mak-90 that I have had for 15 years and re-outfitted last year with new stock, Ultimak, and mentioned sight. It is fine on an occasional shooter, but does compare to the T-1 on my 6920. If your rifle will be used for HD/ fighting rifle, get the Aimpoint.
Thanks alot and as far as the CHF barrel I actually was going to get it but I was advised by multiple people that it was not needed for my purposes and that the standard chrome lined would be plenty.
Thank you, I think it turned out well and was alot easier to build than I expected. (The upper was basically already together so I can not comment on that part)
I do not have a sling yet but planned to get the vcas and was thinking about a white light but not sure of a brand yet so I will check that one out. For the castlenut I did not have a suitable punch to do it but a friend does so as soon as I go over to his house it will be done. For the FCG what brand would you recomend to get? Thank you very much for all the comments.
I will have to double check but I think with everything about $1000. That is with the drop in .22 conversion also. I have already bought the primary arms micro dot but only for till I buy an Aimpoint at a later date and move the Primary Arms from the Ar to a .22 pistol I have.
Thanks again to everyone for the comments! That makes me feel better about my build. I will be shooting it for the first time tomorrow so I hope all goes well.
Alright so I got to go shoot today. I planned to go to the range and use a table and bags to help sight it in… the range closed earlier than expected haha. So me, my fiance and a good friend went to another friends land and shot. We tried to sight them in the best we could and got them close then just had fun shooting. I loved it! I can not wait to get out and shoot it again! Also tried out the .22 conversion and I would recommend it to EVERYONE! Haha it was SO much fun! Its also great to be able to burn through some mags and not care about the price. Very happy Ar owner here :dance3:
Rarely will you see me recommend something I have no experience with… but… the new ALG ACT fcg has a LOT if appeal. I think they’re worth looking at. Otherwise, DD is in most of my lowers.
I was wondering the same thing however in the full right side shit I soiled in and looks like you have at least one staking.
If they are not staked this is a must. I was shooting a buddies AR a couple weeks ago that wasn’t staked and it had started to walk after maybe 100 rounds.
Yah that is just from where I tried to steak it with the punches I have with no luck haha. I still need to go do that.
Update with no picture as of yet: I installed the IWC QD micro flush QD sling mount in my magpul hand guard. It went pretty smoothly and it looks great. I will get a picture up later. I still have to order my sling but sense I wont be doing a whole lot of shooting till july I may just put it off to then. I forgot to mention this was basically a birthday gift to me from my fiance. My birthday is in july so that is why I do not get to shoot it much till then. So she let me order the parts early so I would have plenty of time to build it and make sure everything functioned properly. In return I bought her a remington 870 home defence. She has wanted a 12 guage for some time now so I figured it was only fitting for her birthday is also in july. I know the shotgun does not cost as much as the AR but she will get to shoot it plenty too so she does not mind.
