I probobly have 40 hours of reading and research into this project, my first AR. I didnt want to buy an off the shelf weapon, I customize everything I own so why not start more from scratch? Ive had it out a couple times with irons only and just recently received the Aimpoint so I havent tried that yet.

In my research many people had speculated that the Spikes buffer would be too heavy with the 55gr .223. I only had 3 short strokes out of the first 300rounds so its likely everything was breaking in. To be fair I had 2 short strokes that same trip with the H buffer, none this past time out for another 350rds.
The main reason I put in the H buffer was because the Spikes buffer recoiled very harshly-much to my surprise. My friends Carbine with standard buffer recoiled much smoother than my middy w/Spikes buffer. I was like whaaat? I then tried both a Carbine and H buffer and the H was the smoothest and I had no short stroke issues (other than 2 the first time out shooting, none last time out). The Spikes buffer now lives in my friends Carbine and works great for him, kinda weird…
I dont have a lot of experience with different BUIS, but the Troy is great. Zeroes very easily, very sturdy positive locking. You see why they are so expensive when you use em. Shooting small propane tanks at 200yds was EASY, as was hitting 3" pigeons at 100yds. I’ll run Troy BUIS on everything from here on out. I wanna build an upper with a 10 or 11" handguard and try their HK style front.
Ive been super busy with work so I havent shot the setup since receiving the optic/mount.
This Saturday I will be zeroing it in and I can provide much better feedback then.
After I ordered my 2moa Aimpoint but before receiving it I looked thru a friends H1 clone 4moa and thought I may have chosen wrong, as the 4moa didnt appear as large as I imagined.
Now just having looked thru this many times in different light, and brightness levels I have no regrets for going 2moa. And if you want it bigger just turn up the brightness.
The mount is a great piece, you truly understand why people like Larue stuff so much once you mount it up. Quality piece.
I had an M3 in the LaRue Cantilever Mount and loved it. I bought it on the equipment exchange here on m4 and saved a bunch of money. I ended up trading it for a new H1 and bought a second H1. You will be happy with the.
I had “zeroed” the dot at home using the BUIS and the lightest dot setting for precision. At my 50yd zero that had me on the paper about 3" left and slightly low.
Within 20rds it was zeroed. I like the dot and mount a lot, super fast on target.
Unfortunately the range Nazi wanted to leave early and closed early so I didnt get to spend quality time with it after the zero, I didnt even have a chance to shoot at 100 and 200yds:(
Since the pics I moved the dot one notch further forward to the end of the receiver, that is where I will keep it.
