My FDE SPR build

A couple weeks ago, I went to a gun show. I didn’t think I was going to purchase anything, since I thought myself cynical and jaded to the whole gun show experience. That, and I hadn’t made an impulse gun show purchase since I was a 19-year old PV2 in Alaska.

So I’m walking around, and find that one vendor has some Magpul UBR stocks in FDE. Prior to this I had never seen a UBR in person, and so I had to take the opportunity to fondle one. It felt good. Real good.

I ended up buying the UBR, and getting a pretty good deal on it as well. Then, as I was walking out, I realized that I was perfectly happy with the Ace SOCOM stocks I already have on my M4-type AR15 and AR10. The color didn’t even match, besides that.

It was all downhill from there.

After a mere two weeks of waiting for all the parts I ordered to arrive, it was complete and I hit the range for test firing. All shots were fired from about 100m(approximately, I paced it off). Ammunition types used were standard 62gr M855, Black Hills 68gr, and Double Tap 77gr. (The latter two because that’s what the local store had as far as above average 5.56mm.)

Trijicon Accupoint 3x9x40 mildot green dot reticle at 3x, from appx 100m:

At 9x:

Seven shots of M855:

Five shots of Black Hills 68gr match-grade.

Five shots of Double Tap 77gr.

Some smartassery when I was confirming my zero back at the 25m line.

And now, the glamor shots.

Parts list:
ADS tan lower receiver
R-Guns LPK
Magpul UBR, MIAD, mixture of XT and XTM rail panels
Geissele SSA trigger
Larue Stealth Upper 18" barrel/12" rails
Trijicon Accupoint TR20-2G in a Larue SPR mount
Harris bipod w/ KAC bipod adapter (I’ve been kicking this bipod around for a while)
Larue padded sling w/ QD sockets on either end

I really dig it, though I don’t think it will see as much use as my M4-type carbine. It is also a sign of the times that I was able to get this thing assembled in two weeks flat, rather than the previous AR standard of 3-4 months.

The tan on the lower looks like it matches the magpul tan almost perfect.

very nice

Very nice, Brother

not just a looker, but a shooter too! Very nice and I’m jealous as that is similar to what I have in mind for my next build.

What bbl did you use?

Barrel is a Larue 18" stainless. Got a good deal on EE and couldn’t pass it up.

Very cool gun. I agree that the tan lower matches the Magpul FDE pretty well.

Very well done, and a very nice review. It’s pictures like yours that inch me closer to pulling the trigger on an accupoint for myself…

Nicely executed rifle.

ENJOY !

well done on this SPR I really like it.

Very nice!

Sweet set up, I’ve been thinking about something along those lines for a while now.

I think I know what’s going on top of my latest SPR. Nice looking rifle.

Good looking rifle…reinforces that a tan SPR is the way to go;)
