I’ve been designing this carbine for a while in my head and on paper, it came together pretty quick, funded it with the sale of a few unused guns. It is very fun to handle, lights up my property very nicely.
The stock is a B5 SOPMOD - it holds 6 spare batteries for the Surefire G2X flashlight which is in a IWC mount.
Agreed on all counts. The screws on the bottom of the handguard will really heat up in the summer under sustained fire - i put a strip of griptape along the bottom to cover the screws and then a few places on the top for a little extra grippy grippy.
From the website : IWC designed our new SMC (Side Mount Cantilevered) 1" Light MOUNT-N-SLOT’s with AMBI mounting capability, so you can place the tail cap of the light in either the 1:00 or 11:00 position on your weapon for activation by your support hand thumb. The SMC places the bezel of the light above the barrel and in front of the front sight base to eliminate all shadows, improving your ability to confirm the threat in no-light situations.
The sling is a cotton web sling from a surplus store. I prefer the feel of the cotton webbing over the newer nylon webbing, a lot less scratchy. When I shoot prone I like to use a hasty sling. Otherwise I use the sling to assist with retaining the rifle at a low ready. Rainier Arms QD at the stock connection point.
