My American Barking Spider... (pistol build)

Had some pics on another thread, didn’t want to hijack it any further, so… here are some tidbits from my pistol build…

It is a 556 cal pistol with a Mossberg 7" sst bbl, standard forged upper, YHM FF handguard, SST trigger group, self made lower (CNC’d), PSA pistol tube with a carbine spring and H2 buffer. No sights, it’s a close quarters weapon, all ya need to do it point and shoot and the muzzle blast will disable the intended target, hit em or not… lol

So, it only sports a laser for now. Playing with muzzle devices, this one is a fire-breathing beast, but really does help a bit with recoil, which is negligible on an AR anyway…

Can’t wait to see the vids.

Took it down to do some testing and evaluation with 3 different muzzle devices and the new H2 buffer installed… just shot cheap Herters (tulammo) 223 55gr hollow points, didn’t want to burn up any of my good ammo… heehee

First vid, a test flash suppressor, quickly fabricated (thus the lack of center drill for a straight line of holes)

This needs more work, larger porting and a little more time on V2 to get the holes straight… :suicide2:

okay, how can I embed YT vids here… can I even??

Test #2, the muzzle break that is mounted in the pic of the pistol… works well to quell the recoil, though that ain’t bad on an AR in the first place… still pretty loud too! Very similar in loudness to the first one tested.

One more to try out, a standard M177 Trainer… bit more length, should reduce the fireballs… lol

Oh, all the vids are in 1080HD, so check the settings (if you can stream it that high).

Also learned that I need to setup the cam further away to be able to capture the full extent of the muzzle blast… my bad… next time I will get that right.

Lastly, a vid for comparison… the HBar in 16" with a std A2 flash hider on it. Took that down to setup the red dot, get that and the irons sighted and cowitnessed. Mission accomplished, though I had to settle for a 50yd zero, as the field that I shoot long distance in had waist tall grass (rye) still standing… not gonna happen today…

If you notice, the experimental flash hider was sitting on the bench (not really a bench, a portable one) and upon firing if did a 180 and landed upside down again on the bench…

Didn’t show much of anything. Wait till dark

Agreed…

Dude that was nice. Seemed that the first one had the most flash. Both the first and second were loud as all get out. The XM177 had little flash and was quieter to boot. Good work keep it up.

You are dead on… both the first and second did little to reduce flash, first was the worst, that one needs revamping, but learned from it. The XM177 was actually the best of all from sound level and muzzle flash, if only it were in SST… I know there are a lot of variations on that design too, may incorporate it into my next version…

I enjoyed watching the comparisons. Nice vids. You planning on doing this comparison in the dark as well, or did I miss the link?

Thanks! I am, been a bit distracted lately tho… I have made another comp (V2) and am working on V3 now, so I will have two more to vid. I’ll try to get some night at the range action this weekend if I can, but I’m not sure if I’ll have the V3 comp finished by the weekend.

That SS barrel and flash hider is flashy! Bling, bling!

Nice Gun, Ive seen similar flash hiders from sota arms
