My 2nd & 3rd (well, half of 3rd), DD lightweight and .22 TacSol

See Zzzake’s post below.
That is supposed to be the first post in this thread.

I was a complete nub during my first build. Not knowing anything, it turned out to be quite OK, of course, after selling and buying many things. But this time, I know what I want or more what I need. My first build was with a Noveske 16" SS LW barrel. Even tho its light weight, the rifle weighted over 8 lbs after all the crap I decided to put on it and thats not including the optic and flashlight. So for my 2nd build, I wanted something lightweight. Bottom one.

I guess its not really a build since the upper is complete DD. I did take the 9" OmegaX off it and put it on my .22 TacSol upper. Then bought a used 12" OmegaX, but its not from ground up like my first build.

To Iraqgunz: My castle nut is not staked, will have it done properly after my buis arrived and I go sight it in.

Upper:

Daniel Defense 16" Carbine length lightweight upper with OmegaX
Battlecomp 2.0
Surefire scout m600c on Gear Sector offset mount
Gear Sector vertical grip
KAC panels and LaRue index clips left over from last build
BCM gunfighter mod 4 CH
Aimpoint T-1 on ADM lower 1/3 mount

Iron sight will be KAC micro front/rear, on order from G & R Tactical. Will get here on Monday.

Lower:

Spike’s Zombie lower with color filing (I know I know, but it was on sale in my local shop. When a out of state transfer cost on average 75 bucks, you try to buy your lower locally)

California legal Raddlock Bullet Button
G & R Tactical LPK
Magpul BAD leveler, MIAD, CTR
Geissele SD3G (I switched my triggers around, this was from my first build)
Noveske endplate
BADASS ambi safety switch
*After reading various threads on the Vltor A5 buffer system, I decided to use it on this build. The result is interesting.

When I first shot it, I noticed an increase in recoil kick but with less of a muzzle rise. I did some double taps and it was easier than my 16 middy with sprinco blue/h2. I then switched to my other lower and I felt less recoil kick but with an increase in muzzle rise. Couldn’t do rapid firing as fast in comparison to when it was on the Vltor A5. I am guessing its because the extra weight from the UBR eats away the recoil. I felt less but its actually more?

I took a basic carbine and a carbine/pistol class with my first build. It use to look like this.

The thing was heavy. The first an hour to two, I was doing fine. As the day goes on, the rifle just gets heavier and heavier to lift (I know I need to hit the gym more). I now have a NF NXS 1-4 that I got as a gift on it and I am using it as more of a long-er range rifle.

Changes I made are

BC 2.0 -> AAC Blackout FH
Aimpoint micro -> NF NXS
Geissele SD3G -> SSA-E

The upper on the every top of the picture is a Tactical Solution .22 dedicated upper. I bought it to introduce my younger brother whose 14 to shooting. This things runs like a dream. I just finished adding all the crap on it last night and today at range, I put 800 rounds through it before the first non ammo related fail to extract. I think me and my brother will have a lot of fun with this one.

Tactical Solution .22 upper
DD OmegaX 9"
Tango Down SCAR panels w/ LaRue index clips
KAC hand stop
Aimpoint H-1 on ADM lower 1/3 mount
FSP (This is the one that the upper came with, honestly its kinda crappy. But I want to try a rifle with a front sight post.)
Rear sight will be here Monday as well, its a LaRue fixed BUIS
Surefire G2X Tac on Gear Sector offset mount
Gear Sector QD sling mount

Only thing beside the iron sight thats coming is a VTAC LPSM. I will have the two point sling on the lightweight and a single point sling on the .22. Probably wont have a sling for the heavy rifle.

I already enrolled in a 2day carbine class in September. This will be my first high round count 800-1000 rds class. We will see how she does.

One thing about the LW that worries me a little is how fast it heats up. I fired 100 rounds in a fast-er pace (Cant go super fast since our mags can only hold 10 rounds) and the hand guard was already at a “uncomfortable” temperature. I guess I have to get a pair of gloves too. Overall, I am very happy with this LW build and amazingly excited/pleased with the .22 upper. The .22 upper will allow me to shoot thousands every week without worrying about cost. I honestly recommend anyone who doesn’t have one to get one. I know its more of a toy, but its just straight out fun.

Thanks for reading, all feed backs/criticism welcome !!!

Not really sure how that happened. I was replying to Zzzake’s post and my reply went in the thread over his post…sort of a “post over ride”

Is there an Immediate Action Drill for THAT malfunction?

lol I was going to say how come I can find the reply

I have the TRX extreme 11" on my other rifle right now (middle one in the picture). Its nice but not very comfortable to hold. Kinda have that chess grinder feel. So for this LW build, I want to try the quad rail / rail panel. So far, I like it alot.

As for the buffer tubes, sorry I made it bit confusing. I have two lowers. One is the Mega billet with the UBR stock. It has the stock buffer tube with blue springco spring and H2 buffer. The other lower is the Spike’s Zombie with the A5 buffer/spring kit. I was switching between the two lower and comparing the difference.

The Mega with UBR had less recoil kick (to the shoulder) yet more muzzle flip/movement.

The Spike with A5 had more recoil kick but with less muzzle flip/movement. It was alot easier to do double taps or rapid firing with this setup.

Ya, the .22 upper really did surprise me. I never imagined that I would have so much fun with it. I originally bought it to train and run drills at the same time keeping the ammo cost down. I almost went through two box of Federal 550 brick. Just kept on reloading and dumping. Guess its something I cant really do with 5.56/223.

Also with the .22 upper, I dont need a bullet button on the lower to make it California legal. So practicing reloading related drills with live ammunition was also more yielding.

Ya I was lucky to get a NF NXS as a gift. Ever since I got “addicted” to shooting, I have successfully converted everyone in the family to be pro gun. My parents use to hold more of a neutral/negative view toward guns. But now they even come to my weekend shoots once or twice a week. They dont really like the aimpoint as both of them have faily poor eyesight, they consider the red dot to be “irritating/annoying.” So I went on and pulled “why dont you two buy a good scope to mount onto my guns to shoot” trick. It worked out nicely

I try to make it to the range and shoot at least 100 round of .223 and 200 round of 9mm everyone weekend. I have learned that it really takes time and practice to become good at it and there is no short cut. Almost every good shooter I seen whether its a instructor or just a regular civilian have a shooting age calculated in years, just like every other sport. So I just want to keep a good pace at practicing and try to take a class every quarter, but the ammo price keep on going up just really doesnt help.

So do you feel that the A5 has been helpful?
Did you use it in conjunction with the BattleComp?
The A5 was recommended in the BattleComp thread and I was wanting to try the A5 with the LW I’m working on. I’m already a believer in the BattleComp!!

Yup, the battlecomp definitely helps with muzzle rise. To me tho, I dont think it reduced recoil felt.

On my other upper, the Noveske SS barrel upper mid-length, I couldn’t really tell a major difference when it comes to recoild felt between the battlecomp and the AAC blackout. But the muzzle rise is very noticeable.

To me it seems there is not a major correlation between recoil felt and muzzle movement. But this is based on my very very limited testing and knowledge.

As far as the A5, I havnt shot it enough to really tell much. I also didnt bring my 16" mid length upper with me. Once my iron sights gets here, I will take everything to the range. Should be able tell more once I put a couple hundred rounds through both of my uppers with different lowers.
