Multicam Colors on a rifle

Has anyone done up their rifle in the Multicam colors? Either custom paint jobs, or maybe run black rifles with mixed ODG/FDE colors on it?

Just curious to see what some of the creative minds here have come up with. It seems not many people stick with a straight black rifle these days.

If you have some pics that would be great!

Thanks,
Shane

And a picture of some factory done work:

i like the krylon better.

Here’s my duracoated LWRC M6A3 that was completed by member Stephen_H. It’s actually darker than it looks.

Cheers

Man these pics look awesome. I like the the more faded do it your self look personally…

I really wish I knew how to lay cammo patterns…I don’t have problems painting stuff with spray cans, my projects usually come out good, but the pattern looks hard to lay up…

Maybe I’ll look into some videos on how to mask things off…

The more I look at your rilfe, the more I like it!!!

Did you do anything special for preping the rifle for paint? Espescially the plastic components? Some sort of etching primar maybe?

Also, one you do this can you ever put it back to black? Like a afternoon with some paint thinner and some rags?

Thanks again…

Lovin’ the color guys!

Nice! Did you do it up yourself?

they look great. i could never paint a couple of my lowers (collectors) but i think i could to everything but and it would still look good.

Does Krylon do anything to diminish the finish on an AR? Can’t you easily return it to pristine original?

pretty sure you have to scuff the surface for adhesion.

It isn’t that hard to do. Get some templates from Bulldogarms,

And follow the instructions here,

The only thing I did was degrease and then rub down the surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Didn’t scuff, etch, prime, or anything.

I’m sure if someone put in more prep time, they’d get a more durable result, but when you’re just working with Krylon, you can’t expect miracles anyway. If it wears off, I touch it up: no big deal.

I also started with FDE furniture so that if the paint scuffs off the plastic in places, it just exposes more FDE color instead of stark black streaks.

I don’t know. I sure as heck wouldn’t want to try! There are a lot of little areas (especially on a FF rail system) that would take forever to strip again.
Just to be safe, I think you should consider it a “commitment” before you hit the weapon with paint.

This may very well prolong the life of the paint job (I don’t know), but I didn’t do this to mine and adhesion was no problem.

Very nice.

does that front sight obstruct your view at all?

Sorry, I still prefer all black. Just don’t see much need for a camo’d rifle. Afterall I may loose it if I drop it in the woods, lol!!

NCH

No, front sight is now gone but while it was on there no noticible obstruction. The rifle sported HK’s front and rear before the 1-4X was mounted. Right now there are no irons on it. Just a Fastfire II as a B/U / close range optic. I need to take some new pictures.

i think im going to bite bullet and get my AR-10 koted in Multicam, not exactly economical but the cool factor will make up for it

You can buy Krylon camo paint and print stencils off their website…
