I like the Hoppes Elite products. The cleaner works well and I think that it’s just a high-powered soap product.
I have one of their cleaning kits in a nylon pouch that has a spray bottle of the cleaner, a bottle of the lube, and a bore snake that gets used for a quick-clean before I leave the range. Just spray the cleaner into the upper and on the BCG, scrub it around with an old toothbrush, and most of the fouling wipes right off with a rag or a paper towel. The oil in the kit seems to lube just fine but doesn’t seem to have the cleaning properties of Breakfree CLP or Weaponshield CLP.
That quick-clean and a re-lube is about all my AR’s get and they don’t seem to mind. I never use carb cleaners, etc. Once or twice a year I hit them with foaming bore cleaner and scrub the chamber but most times it’s just out with the old lube/fouling and in with the new lube. I have’nt done white-glove clean since the late 80’s.
I have used Hoppe’s Elite, but 99% of the time I just use WeaponShield overall for all cleaning and lube purposes.
Do most of you folks find WS and MP7 to be fairly equialent?
What about KG products? I have evaluated their copper cleaner and carbon cleaner- good products, but I did not see better carbon removal than WS. Is WS really that good at carbon removal?
I want to try their products, but right now I use G96 as a CLP, WeaponShield grease and Slip2000 EWL for oil. For my barrels I use Gunslick foaming bore cleaner.
I’ve used the Mpro-7 Copper Solvent on various guns and it works well.
For general AR cleaning, I’ve discovered Gunzilla. Weird stuff, but it cleans like crazy and leaves a carbon resistant coating as it dries. The more you use it, the easier the subsequent cleanings.
