I know this might seem like a stupid question but is there any real advantage of having an MP5 type clone for CQB instead of a Glock 19 or something similar? Thanks!
I’ll bite before this gets moved. The clone weighs 5# empty and will be difficult to shoot one handed. The Glock weighs 1 1/2#. Do you want to look cool or hit what you are aiming at?

So this would be for functional purposes, it doesn’t seem to me like there is an added benefit of having an MP5

You’re comparing apples and oranges. This question doesn’t even make sense. Pistols and subguns do different things.
What are those different things? It seems like within 50-100 meters they do the same thing if it’s semi-auto. That’s my question.
Do you really think you can shoot a handgun as accurately as a shouldered subgun at those distances?

I don’t mean to be offensive when I say this, but based on your question I’m guessing you’re pretty new to this. If I were you, I would get a reliable pistol in a manageable caliber that you can shoot well, and an AR-15 of good quality that you can learn on, and shoot and shoot until you feel you’ve developed more needs.

Do lots of reading, and you’ll find this site to be the best resource on the net. If you’re wondering what you want, I’d take a look at a Glock 17 or 19 for your handgun, and take a look at Colt and BCM for rifle stuff.

IIRC there is only one pistol out there that guarantees hit probability. I’m not sure the OP can afford it though…

I could have snapped a pic for you at the range today- I put 200 rounds through my MP5K and 100 through my P226 on IDPA silhouettes doing ready ups from the 15 meter line.
The MP5K quickly chewed out the center and eventually made some confetti as the hole expanded. I was doing hammer drills at near cyclic rate and somebody even asked me if I had a 2-round burst sear.
I also did 3 round failure drills with both.
The P226 had a defined central grouping, but they weren’t all A zone hits… particularly the head.

This right here. Even for the price of the lower end Pakistani MP5 clones you can have a basic BCM/Colt/Sionics carbine and a reliable pistol. Go up to a nicer one or a H&K parts kit and you can add a nice optic and a case of ammo to the aforementioned carbine and pistol.
