Morning to all,
I have no SBR’s nor “select fire” weapons. All semi autos. Need I notify anybody that I’m bringing these firearms into the state. I mean, it’s not like I’m moving to CA or MA; however, wasn’t aware if there would be any issues. Hell, the good ol’ boys in Huntsville, Alabame will probably welcome me w/ open arms. No person shall carry a pistol in any vehicle or concealed on or about his person, except on his land, in his own abode or fixed place of business, without a license therefore as hereinafter provided.

Alabama law prohibits any person from carrying a pistol in any vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person without a pistol permit license.
Make sure you check on the others states that you plan to drive thru.

You can transport them unloaded, seperated from the ammo and lock in a case. 
"A person may lawfully transport a firearm , including a handgun, from one state in which they are legal to possess to another state without a permit as required under Alabama law, provided the following conditions are met:
The firearm is unloaded
Neither the firearm or the ammunition is readily accessible
In case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, the firearm and ammunition shall be in a locked container other than the glove box or console."

I have a Florida CCL and I am fine to have it in Alabama on me. I do not know about the rules of a Virgina CCL holder if you have one.
I am a LEO in Alabama. We do not have any type of registration of any weapons in Alabama. The only Class III weapon that you cannot possess is a short barreled shotgun.
Alabama is a shall issuse state. You have to be a state residence to get a permitt. The residence requirement is,I think, 90 days. The sheriff’s office in your county of residence will isssue you a permit after a background check.
This is the answer you were looking for and the same applies in VA. Locked cases in the trunk will be the best scenario.
Alabama’s pretty lax when it comes to gun laws. Get a concealed carry permit once you establish residency like Line Rider says and you’ll be fine. One of my best friends is a LEO in Montgomery and the CCW permit pertains to keeping rifles loaded to. As long as you show that you’re making a genuine effort to keep the weapons and ammunition seperate you shouldn’t have any problems. Alabama’s CCW is starting to be recognized by more and more states. When I first started carrying, there were only 12 states that recognized Alabama, now it’s up to 20. This includes any state that borders Alabama. Huntsville’s a good area, but not a whole lot of places to go shoot. Larry’s Gun and Pawn has a pretty nice indoor range and it’s pretty reasonable to shoot at. It’s off of Memorial Parkway. There’s some good homes over in Madison.
All information I have gotten is that SBRs across the board are illegal in AL. I was planning on buying some land across the line to build a range and hunt on, I check into this. I know there was a move to have this changed, but so far that hasn’t gotten done.

Larry’s is the only indoor range, here now that Range Time folded a few years ago. For outdoor ranges, there is Swan Creek in Decatur and Skyline in Jackson Co. If you like F-class and other long range rifle matches, Tullahoma (Arnold Engineering Center/Arnold Air Force Base) has some out to 1000 yds. We have a very active local IDPA scene with several smaller ranges in the surrounding counties. Tiger McKee’s school (Shootrite) is just south of here maybe 30 miles.
